WEEK 7 DRAFTKINGS DFS CASH GAME PICKS

QUARTERBACK

TOP PLAY

Patrick Mahomes, KC ($8300)

This is an interesting one. Mahomes is currently the highest projected rostered QB, but is he really worth the price tag with SO many viable cheap QBs available for cash? This is one to really follow as far as roster trends (and injury news) shake out over the weekend, but one really cannot deny the matchup. Despite a ragtag group of WRs (outside of Kelce), Mahomes is still the QB4 on the season, and the Chargers have allowed the most FPPG to opposing QBs through the first six weeks.

Other options - Lamar Jackson

Mid-tier options - Matthew Stafford, Geno Smith

VALUE PLAY

Sam Howell, WAS ($5500)

Don’t look now, but Sam Howell is currently the QB12 in 2023. It’s his first full year as a starter, so there will be growing pains, but the matchup cannot be denied this week. Even though the Giants’ D looked fiery against Josh Allen, they’re still dead last in the NFL in sack rate, and it’s not particularly close either. Even if he takes some hits, Howell can far outstrip his 17.7 fantasy points per game (FPPG) this week and is not at all priced for it.

Other options - Jordan Love, Daniel Jones/Tyrod Taylor, Russell Wilson

RUNNING BACK

TOP PLAY

Josh Jacobs, LV ($7400)

After a slow start, we’re beginning to see the Josh Jacobs that finished as last year’s overall RB1. He has received 52 touches over the past two games, and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue this week with the likelihood either Brian Hoyer or Aidan O’Connell will start. The Bears have allowed the fifth highest YPC and the fifth most FPPG to RBs, so we should even see improvement in the efficiency category for Jacobs.

Other options - Austin Ekeler, Kenneth Walker

Mid-tier options - Jahmyr Gibbs, Isaiah Pacheco

VALUE PLAY

Zack Evans, LAR ($4000)

The Rams’ running back situation is a bit weird, but Zach Evans will likely be very popular this week at the minimum price tag. With Kyren Williams doubtful for the weekend and Ronnie Rivers heading to injured reserve (IR), Evans looks like the last healthy body in the Rams backfield. They have Royce Freeman, but we’ve seen a large sample size of him not being fit to handle heavy workloads. They also signed Darrell Henderson which adds some risk since he’s familiar with the offense, but Evans’ minimum price tag reduces a great deal of the risk involved with the other backs getting too involved. According to relative athletic score (RAS), Evans scored an 8.72 out of 10, which lands him in the 75th percentile of every RB drafted in the last 35 years. Pittsburgh has allowed the eighth most FPPG to opposing RBs, so there’s really no downside here.
Other options - Brian Robinson, Rhamondre Stevenson, Jerome Ford, Roschon Johnson, D’Onta Foreman

WIDE RECEIVER

TOP PLAY
Cooper Kupp, LAR ($9500)

Cooper Kupp has not missed a beat since returning, posting 266 receiving yards on 15 receptions (21 targets). With value all over the place at QB and RB this week, it’s relatively easy to pay all the way up for Cooper if you want to lock in both his PPR and TD upside. Pittsburgh has given up the fourth most FPPG to opposing WRs, and it’s possible the Rams just lean on the passing game with such a state of volatility in their backfield room.

Other options - Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Keenan Allen

Mid-tier options - Mike Evans, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Jakobi Meyers

VALUE PLAY

Wan’Dale Robinson, NYG ($3800)

Wan’Dale Robinson’s air yards share is a meager 9.7%, which takes away his guaranteed prize pool (GPP) appeal, but he’s firmly on the cash radar at a sub-$4k price tag again. Robinson has 20 targets over the last three weeks, and it’s clear he’s the most trusted receiver over the middle for New York, no matter who is quarterbacking them. He currently has an 88% catch rate on the season, which works beautifully for DraftKings’ PPR setting.

Other options - Zay Flowers, Christian Watson, Terry McLaurin, Marquise Brown, Joshua Palmer, Kendrick Bourne, Curtis Samuel

TIGHT END

TOP PLAY

Travis Kelce, KC ($8000)

Kelce is popular because the Chiefs are (rightfully) popular, so he’s always in play for cash. I do think my big money will be spent elsewhere, especially since Kelce technically has the toughest matchup of all Chiefs pass-catchers against Derwin James.

Other options - Mark Andrews, Sam LaPorta

Mid-tier options - Cole Kmet, Kyle Pitts

VALUE PLAY

Luke Musgrave, GB ($3300)

Barring something else happening, Musgrave is likely the cheap TE I’ll roster in cash for Week 7. The rookie currently leads all TEs in target separation, and this week, he gets a Denver defense that is absolutely hemorrhaging fantasy points to the position. They’ve not only allowed the most FPPG but also the most receptions and the highest YPC. Musgrave doesn’t even need to score to clear value in this game.

Other options - Logan Thomas, Dawson Knox (if no Kincaid), Michael Mayer, Trey McBride
