Jerome Ford 2023 Outlook
Ford was a productive college running back after transferring from Alabama to Cincinnati. The Cleveland Browns kept him in the state of Ohio by drafting him in the fifth round in 2022. Ford provided value to the Browns as a kick returner in his rookie year, but he was on the field for only 14 offensive snaps. Things are different this season. Creating the possibility for more fantasy value for Ford, former No. 2 back Kareem Hunt did not return after asking for a trade during the 2022 season. D’Ernest Johnson, who also could have competed for carries, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ford appears to have the angle to become Cleveland’s new No. 2 back. Ford has had limited chances to run against NFL defenses, but he has the background and the moves to at least have a chance at this level. He’s not worth drafting in a 10- or even 12-team league right off the bat, but watch for how much Kevin Stefanski uses him in Week 1. After all, the Browns ranked fifth in rushing attempts a year ago. They can’t all go to Nick Chubb.
