Cooper Kupp 2023 Outlook
Coming off a magical "Triple Crown" campaign that included Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP honors, Kupp was on pace for another massive fantasy season with 8.3 catches and 90.2 yards per game through nine games in 2022. And then an injury to his right ankle in Week 10 required season-ending "tightrope" surgery, although he still finished first on the Rams in receptions, yards, TD grabs and 100-yard games (five). Over the past four seasons (2019-22), only Davante Adams has more catches in the NFL and only Adams, Stefon Diggs and Tyreek Hill have more yards among WRs. Kupp turned 30 this summer, but the ankle is reportedly at 100 percent and his status as L.A.'s WR1 is irrefutable; TE Tyler Higbee is his only serious competition for targets unless Van Jefferson makes "the leap" in Year 4. The biggest question mark is the health of QB Matthew Stafford, with Brett Rypien and rookie Stetson Bennett battling for backup duties.
Cooper Kupp 2022 Outlook
Kupp couldn't have had a more valuable season at his position -- from both an NFL and fantasy football perspectives. After claiming the first receiving Triple Crown in more than a decade, and just the fifth in history, Kupp, who was rewarded with a three-year, $78.5 million extension this offseason, was voted the 2021 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year (only the third wideout to earn the award). A few days later, Kupp was named Super Bowl MVP for his performance in the team's 23-20 win over the Cincinnati. So, yes. It was a phenomenal season. In fact, Kupp's 145 catches and 1,947 receiving yards were the second-highest totals in league history. No one has come close to approaching both of those marks in the same season, much less with 16 TDs. He recorded 90-plus receiving yards in 13 straight games (most in Super Bowl era) and 16 overall (most in NFL history). His 11 games with 100-plus yards tied the NFL record. Kupp finished the regular season as the most reliable player in fantasy football. He scored double-digit fantasy points in full PPR scoring in every game this season; he scored at least 20 points 14 times and he had 30 or more points six times. Will there be some regression? Certainly. Will he still be the top wideout selected in your draft? Almost certainly. And we're not against that level of investment.
Cooper Kupp 2021 Outlook
As USA Today noted, Kupp has been a stud since coming into the NFL as a third-round pick in 2017. He's totaled 3,570 yards and 24 touchdowns in four seasons, averaging 892.5 yards and six touchdowns per year despite missing 10 games. He's made a name for himself as a security blanket for Jared Goff, always finding holes in the zone and getting open when the quarterback was under duress. In fact, he's earned the nickname "Third and Kupp" because of how good he is on that crucial down. According to Pro Football Focus, Kupp has the second-highest grade of any wide receiver on third down since 2019, behind only the great Davante Adams. USA Today notes that on third downs Kupp has caught 95 passes for 1,393 yards and 13 touchdowns for an average of 10.0 yards per target, which are all his highest totals of any down played. He's also picked up 75 first downs on third down, 25 more than on second down and more than double his total on first down (37). That chain-moving role seems likely to continue this season now with Matthew Stafford under center.
