Tyler Lockett 2022 Outlook
As USA Today recently noted, after a dispiriting start to the 2022 offseason highlighted by the departure of Russell Wilson, the team appears to have had a fruitful draft class, bringing in highly-touted prospects like Kenneth Walker III, among others. As one of the Hawks' most experienced players, Lockett relishes his role as a team leader and looks forward to a new season with the widely revamped and reenergized lineup. "I'm excited," he said. "I think that we have a great team at hand. I think that we're seeing it each and every day. We're understanding new schemes, new philosophies, new offense, new defense. I think that it's going to be a great season. Honestly, I do. ..." While Lockett's enthusiasm is admirable, it's fair to question whether fantasy managers should share in it. While it's true that only three wide receivers have finished top 20 in fantasy points each of the past four seasons: Mike Evans, Keenan Allen and Lockett. But Lockett is turning 30 years old this season and finds himself in a situation with Geno Smith/Drew Lock at quarterback. As FantasyPros' Andrew Erickson reminded readers, Lockett has always been a boom/bust producer -- four top-5 finishes, seven outside the top 36 in 2021 -- playing with a high-end triggerman. This year, Erickson believes the bad games will be more frequent than ever with the massive QB downgrade.
Tyler Lockett 2021 Outlook
The Seahawks will have Lockett for the prime of his career after signing him to a four-year contract extension this offseason. ... He has been with the Seahawks since they selected him in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft. Last year he had a career-high 100 catches and 10 touchdowns but a career-low 10.5 yards per catch. With Lockett now under contract well into his 30s and DK Metcalf having two years left on his rookie deal, the Seahawks should keep the dangerous duo playing together for years to come. ... It's easy to overlook just how good Lockett is. As NBC's Peter King outlines, Lockett’s last three years compare favorably against two receivers most would consider brighter lights: Amari Cooper: 47 games, 246 catches, 3,308 yards, 13.4 per catch, 20 TDs; Lockett: 48 games, 239 catches, 3,076 yards, 12.9 per catch, 28 TDs; Jarvis Landry: 47 games, 236 catches, 2,990 yards, 12.7 per catch, 13 TDs. Although consistency was an issue last season -- he failed to score more than 12 fantasy points in 10 of 16 games (62.5 percent) and was held to single-digit points in seven of those 10 (43.7 percent) -- Lockett has huge week-to-week upside as a WR2/WR3.
Tyler Lockett 2020 Outlook
NFL.com's Nick Shook used NextGen Stats to rank pass-catcher performances in 2019, and that list shows what Seahawks fans have known in recent years: Lockett is one of the game's truly elite receivers. The list looks at a pass-catcher's catch rate compared to his expected catch rate, and the higher the differential, the better the player is ranked. Lockett came in at No. 2 on the list with a catch rate that was 12.6 percent better than his expected catch rate (74.5 vs. 61.9). Only New Orleans' Michael Thomas, who set an NFL record with 149 catches last year, was better -- barely, with a differential of 12.7 percent. Lockett averaged more than 16 fantasy points per game in the first half of the season, but that total declined to barely over 13 points from Weeks 9-17 in large part because he was injured. In fact, after Lockett was hospitalized following Week 10 he wasn't the same, averaging 5.7 targets per game, and a low-for-him 13.2 yards per catch. Before the injury, Lockett was on-pace for over 100 catches, over 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns, something that CBSSports.com believes shouldn't be lost on this year’s fantasy drafters. True, DK Metcalf's development and Greg Olsen's arrival might cost Lockett a few targets, but he's played at a hyper-efficient level and remains a WR2 in most 2020 drafts.
