Kendrick Bourne 2021 Outlook
Besides giving former Raider Nelson Agholor a two-year, $26 million deal, the Patriots also added Bourne this offseason on a three-year, $22.5 million deal. ... Once the Patriots decided to bring back Cam Newton at quarterback, they clearly also decided to add better weapons around him. According to USA Today, it's a good schematic fit for Bourne, who is likely to compete with Jakobi Meyers and N'Keal Harry for the outside receiver role in 2021. Agholor and Meyers are versatile enough to play inside or outside, and Bourne can do the same. More to the point, Bourne is a precise route-runner who has shown ability as a possession receiver. He should also help the Patriots on third down, where he has displayed a knack for creating separation -- an important role given Julian Edelman's retirement. The Patriots were 17th in the NFL on third downs last season, converting 40.7 percent of the time. Bourne is 25 years old, so the Patriots are getting him in his prime years, similar to tight end Jonnu Smith (25) and Hunter Henry (26), the two newly-signed tight ends New England also added to the receiving corps.
