Zach Evans 2023 Outlook
Evans transferred to Ole Miss in 2022 after two seasons at TCU. While he missed out on the Horned Frogs’ Cinderella run to the national title game, he got to have a starring role with the Rebels. An explosive runner, his propensity for breaking off big gains led him to post four 130-yard rushing games, including a 207-yard outing against Arkansas. Evans joins the Los Angeles Rams at just the right time. They had some unrest in the backfield over the past year-plus, but Cam Akers -- after a reported trade demand and a few weeks on the sideline -- has settled in as their No. 1 while the team moved on from Darrell Henderson. Another back from 2022, Malcolm Brown, is also out of the picture; Evans is only vying for carries with Akers and Kyren Williams. Evans won’t offer anything as a pass-catcher, and Sean McVay likes to pass in the red zone more than most teams, hindering some scoring opportunities. But Evans has some potential to break into the Rams’ backfield rotation.
