Mike Evans 2021 Outlook
As Fansided.com recently argued, Evans has already cemented himself as the best offensive player in franchise history, and he isn't far from earning the title as the best player in team history, too. The veteran wideout has become synonymous with 1,000-yard seasons. Going seven for seven during his time in the NFL, Evans has been able to overcome every distraction and detractor in Tampa to make this happen. It was fitting that Evans was able to secure his current record for 1,000-yard seasons during the Bucs’ run to the Super Bowl title last season. Coaching changes, poor quarterback play, and injuries didn’t stop Evans before, and they won't stop him in 2021, either. In fact, they'll likely work in his favor. For the first time in his career, Evans heads into the season knowing he will be playing with one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Tom Brady showed plenty of consistency in 2020; expect him to be even better after getting an entire season and a real offseason to work with his receivers. Fansided summed up: "With Brady in a clear position to compete for the MVP and another year of chemistry with his wide receivers, betting on Evans to finish 2021 without 1,000 receiving yards would be a terrible waste of money."
Mike Evans 2020 Outlook
Evans joins Randy Moss as the only receivers to start their careers with five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Should Evans do it again in 2020, he'll stand alone in the record books. Last year, Evans had 1,157 yards and would have had more had he also not had to sit out a few games (three total) due to a hamstring injury. If you look at yards per reception as a result, you'll see that Evans had a 17.3 yard-per-reception average. Most of that was at the point of catch, too, which is where Evans excelled. He had the third-best yards at catch per reception average with 13.6. But from a fantasy perspective, there were shortcomings. He finished fifth in points per game among wideouts, yet Evans was a top-20 fantasy wideout in just 38.5 percent of his starts. What's more, he scored 62 percent of his points in just four games. Although the presence of Chris Godwin and newcomer Rob Gronkowski will keep defenses honest, new QB Tom Brady hasn't had two pass-catchers top 1,100 receiving yards in the same season since 2011, when Gronkowski and Wes Welker did it. This year, Brady could strike up a rapport with either Evans or Godwin -- or both. That being the case, there's a reasonable argument to be made for picking the slightly cheaper option.
