Travis Kelce 2022 Outlook
According to the Pro Football Network, "The end is near for Kelce, but it is not now. If anything, 2022 looks like it may be one of Kelce's best seasons yet. ..." This after the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins. In addition, the Chiefs lost Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson in free agency. The only relevant returning Chiefs' pass catchers are Kelce and Mecole Hardman. The Chiefs signed JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. They also selected rookie Skyy Moore in the second round of April's draft. Whatever you think of the newcomers to this receiving corps, expecting any of them to replace Hill's production is a reach. That being the case, it's fair to expect Patrick Mahomes to continue leaning on Kelce as heavily as he has in the past. If that's the case, it's worth noting that Kelce's 7,269 receiving yards are the most in the NFL since 2016. He tops a list that features elite receivers Davante Adams (7,192), Julio Jones (7,129), DeAndre Hopkins (7,048), and Mike Evans (7,044). Since then, Kelce's lowest output was 1,038 yards in 2017, but he had eight touchdowns. What's more impressive is that he has averaged double-digit yards per reception throughout his career. Beyond that, Kelce's career-high in target share was 26.6 percent in 2018. It wouldn't be shocking if he tops that number this season. He remains locked in as the top fantasy tight end in the league.
Travis Kelce 2021 Outlook
Kelce is playing as well as anybody in the league at their respective position. Pro Football Focus' Ben Linsey notes that over the last five seasons, Kelce's 2,639 receiving yards after the catch are over 400 more yards than any other player -- tight end or wide receiver -- in the NFL. Only Golden Tate and Jarvis Landry have forced more missed tackles over that same span. His knack for getting open paired with that after-the-catch ability makes him the most dangerous receiving tight end the league has to offer right now. As a result, Kelce finished as the top fantasy TE for the fifth-straight season, scoring a career-best 312 points. According to SI.com, it's the second-most points scored by a tight end in a single season, behind only Rob Gronkowski's 330 points in 2011. FantasyPros.com noted that if you only counted Kelce's final eight games last season, he still would've finished as the No. 2 tight end. Kelce could've stopped playing in Week 11 and still finished as the No. 2 tight end. So, while he's getting older, Kelce is clearly showing no signs of slowing down. Indeed, playing in a high-powered Chiefs offense with Patrick Mahomes as his triggerman, it's hard to argue that anyone besides Kelce should sit at the top of this list.
Travis Kelce 2020 Outlook
Once again, Kelce edges out San Francisco's George Kittle to top our list of fantasy tight ends. As CBSSports.com put it, "The five-time Pro Bowler 'only' scored six TDs during the Chiefs' Super Bowl [season], but let's not overcomplicate this: He's the best. ..." At 30, he may not be as spry as Kittle, who's got three fewer seasons of wear and tear. But on a Chiefs offense loaded with star power, Kelce still stands out as Patrick Mahomes' most reliable target with four straight years with at least 80 catches and 1,000 yards. He's also remarkably reliable (one missed game over the last six years). Per NFL.com, all of his top-10 finishes last season were top fives, and he led the position with 14 double-digit performances including five with 20-plus points. What's more, Kelce failed to finish outside of the top 20 in just one of his 16 games. Yes, Kittle was very close in fantasy points per game average, but playing in a more explosive Kansas City offense is the difference maker here. CBS summed it up best: "You could argue that Kittle, Zach Ertz and maybe even Mark Andrews have a higher ceiling, but no one's got such a steady floor, and considering his supporting cast, there's no reason to expect any drop-off from Kelce's run of gaudy numbers.'
