Week 3: Digging In The Crates

DraftKings Main Slate (12 Games)

Quarterbacks

Geno Smith vs. Panthers ($5,700)

Last week, Smith threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns while completing 32-of-41 (78%) of his pass attempts. He is picking up right where he left off in 2022. He also has a sound running game with Kenny Walker, and arguably the best wide receiver tandem in the league. The pricing is stiff at the top this week, but at a discount I will be rolling Smith out with DK Metcalf or Tyler Lockett. Smith doesn’t have the ceiling of the big dogs this week, but he is steady.

Russell Wilson @ Dolphins ($5,900)

Are we getting to see Russ cook? So far so good. Wilson completed 18 of 32 pass attempts for 308 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 35-33 loss to Washington. For perspective, Wilson is averaging 23.2 FPTS through two weeks, which is more than Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. He also rushed for 56 yards last week, giving us that added equity. I like him nearly as much as Geno this week, and he’ll be owned at about 3%. Sign me up.

Running Backs

Jerome Ford vs. Titans ($4,800)

Jerome Ford has big shoes to fill in Cleveland now that Nick Chubb is out for the season. He has a brutal match up this week against the Titans, but based on his usage, and price, he’ll be the highest owned player on the slate. Unfortunately, he’ll face the best run defense in the game. No running back has rushed for more than 45 yards against the Titans so far this season. It should be noted that the Browns signed Kareem Hunt this week. I’ll use Ford, but fading him in Tournaments could be an effective approach based on his projected popularity.

Brian Robinson vs. Bills ($5,800)

First year starter Sam Howell has had some help in the running game so far this season with Brian Robinson. He has a averaged over 20 FPTS per game, on 20 or more touches in the first two weeks. He’ll face a middle of the road Bills run defense that allowed Breece Hall to rush for 127 yards Week 1. We are paying for volume here, and we will get him at under 9%. If the Commanders can keep this one close at home, then B-Rob is going to pay off his affordable price tag.

Wide Receivers

Christian Kirk vs. Texans ($5,400)

Christian Kirk has arrived in 2023 after a Week 1 dud. Kirk hauled in 11-of-14 targets, for 110 yards Week 2, and with the uncertainty of Zay Jones, we could get another dose. Texans cornerback Derek Stingley will not be playing, and Trevor Lawrence should have a field day. Gardner Minshew was able to carve up the Texans secondary in Anthony Richardson’s absense. Kirk is a tremendous pt/$ play this week, and I will be heavy on him.

Adam Thielen @ Seahawks ($3,900)

We had an Adam Thielen sighting Week 2, and the Panthers will need more of that if they anticipate competing offensively this season. Thielen hauled in 7-of-9 targets for 54 yards, and a touchdown. The Seahawks may be without starting cornerback Riq Woolen for Sunday's game against the Panthers as he deals with a chest injury. He’s showing up in optimal lineups as a great pt/$ play.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz vs. Cowboys ($3,500)

The Cardinals have been abysmal on offense this season without Kyler Murray under center, but Zach Ertz has been steady in the passing game. He’s hauled in six passes each game leading the Cardinals in receiving. Ertz is no doubt Josh Dobbs security blanket as he’s targeting him 32% of the time. It has yet to be seen if Ertz still has the upside he once presented in Philadelphia.

Sam LaPorta vs. Falcons ($4,000)

It appears that the Lions have found a Tight End in Sam LaPorta that will help Jared Goff be less reliant on Amon Ra St-Brown in 2023. LaPorta has caught five balls in back to back weeks and the Lions may be short handed this weekend against the 2-0 Atlanta Falcons. LaPorta is a top-5 TE play at his price point. The 10 receptions that LaPorta has reeled in are also the second-most ever recorded by any tight end through their first two games in the NFL.

Defense/Special Teams

Patriots @ Jets ($3,500)
