Dollar Free Agents 2017 Week 4

By Matthew Cherrin
Matthew Cherrin Mohamed Sanu- WR- Atlanta
The former Cincinnati Bengal has been a valuable asset for the Atlanta Falcons ever since he joined the team in 2016. So far on the season, Sanu has been targeted at least six times, and he’s recorded 15 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown. Of course Sanu has to compete for targets with Julio Jones and now Taylor Gabriel, but Matt Ryan does a good job of spreading the ball around to different players. Sanu might be a player Jones owners want to pick up just in case he misses some action in the upcoming weeks with a lower back injury.

Marcedes Lewis- TE- Jaguars
The Jaguars’ tight end Mercedes Lewis rose from the dead in London last Sunday after many fantasy owners had forgotten he was still in the league. Lewis used to a viable tight end threat years ago, but hadn’t scored a touchdown since week 2 of last season. On Sunday, he recorded four receptions for 62 yards and three touchdowns. With all of the disappointing tight end performances thus far this season (like Hunter Henry and Jack Doyle) Lewis might be a player owners want to consider picking up. With Allen Robinson lost for the season, Lewis could be the number one red zone target for the Jaguars this year. Pick him up for a buck this week.

Geronimo Allison- WR- Packers
If Randall Cobb misses his second consecutive game Thursday night against the Bears, fantasy owners should think about picking up Geronimo Allison. Last week against the Bengals, Allison had six receptions for 122 yards. Allison might be a good player to have the bench if Jordy Nelson also goes down, which is very possible considering his past and his injury in week 2. Pick up Alliston now for a buck and wait for Nelson or Cobb to miss significant time.

Andre Ellington- RB- Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have little to zero running game, but Andre Ellington looks like the best running back option in the passing game. On Monday night against the Cowboys, Ellington had five rushes for 22 yards and five receptions for 59 yards. The Cardinals look like they will be playing catch-up football for most of the 2017 season, which bodes well for Ellington and his fantasy owners. The Cardinals like to throw the ball the majority of the time anyway, accounting for 67 percent of their total plays on offense thus far. Ellington is the running back to pick up in Arizona, and you can get him for a buck this week.

Alex Collins- RB- Ravens
The Ravens have no idea who will get the majority of the snaps each week at running back. In Week one it was Terrence West. In week 2 it was Buck Allen. Last week against the Jaguars, former Seattle running back Alex Collins had the best performance of the three. He ended the game with nine rushes for 82 yards. So far on the season, he has 16 rushes for 124 yards, recording a 7.75 yards per carry. Baltimore faces the Steelers on Sunday, who has given up the 5th most fantasy points to running backs this season. Dynasty and keeper league managers might want to pick up Collins for a buck this week.

Brian Hoyer- QB- 49ers
49ers QB Brain Hoyer isn’t someone that you want to start every week, but he has a good matchup against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday, whose defense has given up the 6th most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2017. Last week against the Rams Hoyer threw for 332 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for nine yards and a score. If your quarterback has a bad matchup this week, pick up and start Hoyer for a buck.

Willie Snead- WR- Saints
After a three game suspension, Saints wide out Willie Snead will return Sunday to the field against the Miami Dolphins. Snead is a much needed deep-ball threat that Drew Brees is happy to have back. Since Snead entered the league in 2015, he has 141 receptions for 1,879 yards and seven scores. With former teammate Brandin Cooks in New England, Snead will have his first real shot of starting opposite of Michael Thomas. Look to pick up Snead for a buck this week if you are in desperate need of a wide out to start.

Devin Funchess- WR- Panthers
Kelvin Benjamin owners might want to take a hard look at Devin Funchess this week since Benjamin might not play on Sunday against the Patriots. Last week against the Saints, Funchess had double digit targets for the first time in his career. While two of them led to interceptions, Cam Newton is looking Funchess’s way with Olsen and Benjamin hurt. He ended the game with four receptions for 58 yards. While Funchess has not proven himself as a reliable wide out, the Panthers face the Patriots defense on Sunday who have given up the 7th most fantasy points to wide outs in the first three games of 2017. Benjamin owners should look to replace him with Funchess this week for a dollar.

Marqise Lee- WR- Jaguars
With Allen Robinson out for the year, Marqise Lee might be the number one in option in Jacksonville for quarterback Blake Bortles. In the last two weeks, Lee has been targeted 19 times and recorded 11 receptions for 141 yards. All four of Lee’s receptions came in the first half last week, but that was only because Jacksonville was blowing out the Ravens and didn’t need to throw the ball much in the second half of the game. The Jags face the Jets this Sunday, whose defense has given up the 5th most points to wide receivers this season. You can get Lee for a buck this week and start him against a weak New York defense.
