Willie Snead 2019 Outlook
In three seasons with the Saints, Snead appeared in 41 games, made 19 starts and totaled 149 receptions for 1,971 yards and seven TDs. In 2018, Snead appeared in all 16 games (the first time he has done that in his career), starting 10 of them as the Ravens' No. 3 receiver behind John Brown and Michael Crabtree. Now, with both Brown and Crabtree gone, Snead will initially assume the role as the lead wideout for second-year QB Lamar Jackson. So what should we hang our hat on here with the Ravens’ fielding a run-first offense and with rookies Marquise Brown and Miles Boykin hopefully emerging as playmakers sooner rather than later? Perhaps we should expect more consistent production from the veteran, at least early on. Beyond that, it's worth noting that Snead forced 14 missed tackles after the catch in 2018, which according to Pro Football Focus, tied him for fifth-most in the league. That the Snead primarily works shorter and intermediate routes out of the slot makes that elusiveness an even greater asset. The problem, however, is the system he's in. Expecting consistent week-to-week production from any of the wideouts seems like a stretch.
Willie Snead 2018 Outlook
Snead, a restricted free agent, signed a two-year offer sheet worth up to $10.4 million with the Ravens. The Saints could have retained Snead by matching the offer, but they elected not to adding former Bear Cameron Meredith instead. This wasn't a major surprise considering Snead was tendered at the lowest level earlier this offseason. He was suspended for three games to open last season and ended the disappointing year with just eight catches for 92 yards in 11 games. The Ravens are in the midst of a major overhaul at the position with recent signees Michael Crabtree and John Brown currently at the top of their depth chart. Snead, who had 141 catches over the previous two seasons in New Orleans, seems likely to move in as their WR3 at this point, but it's not clear whether his role will be substantial enough to make him fantasy relevant again. Keep him on your waiver-wire watch list.
