Taylor Gabriel 2019 Outlook
When the Bears signed Gabriel to a four-year, $26 million deal in March of 2018, he, along with former Jaguar Allen Robinson, were tasked with turning around the dismal Chicago wide receiving corps from 2017 that featured players such as Kendall Wright, Dontrelle Inman, Markus Wheaton and Tre McBride. As USA Today suggested, Gabriel did his part, catching 67 passes for 688 yards, both good enough for second-highest on the team, along with two touchdowns. His 72 percent catch rate was the highest among Bears wide receivers with at least 10 receptions, and he was a key factor in helping lead the Bears to a 12-4 record. This season Gabriel figures to once again play a role in Matt Nagy's offense, the question is whether it will be as prominent a role. As CBSSports.com notes, used as both a deep-ball threat and a catch-and-go target, Gabriel's catch and yardage totals were career highs, but he still only found the end zone twice. He also disappointed with a 10.3 yards-per-catch average, seemingly negating the upside his speed suggests. Chicago also added receivers this offseason, including Riley Ridley in April's draft, to a mix that includes promising second-year man Anthony Miller. They could all become limiting factors for Gabriel.
