Drew Brees 2020 Outlook
Brees announced he would be back in uniform for the 2020 season in February and even with some off-field angst in early June, it's hard to view his return as anything but a positive from an on-field perspective. Although he missed five games with a thumb injury in 2019, Brees, the NFL's career leader in touchdown passes and passing yards, led the NFL with a 74.3 percent completion percentage to go along with his impressive totals of nearly 3,000 passing yards and 27 touchdown passes. In just 11 games. Beyond that, NFL.com pointed out that Brees was one of just seven quarterbacks to average more than 20 fantasy points per game in 2018, so it's no surprise that he was a top performer in points per touch average again in 2019. While he did next to nothing as a runner (5.6 total fantasy points), he was at his best when it mattered most, scoring 21-plus fantasy points in all but one of his final six starts. Brees also averaged 30.4 points in the fantasy postseason. With an innovative coach in Sean Payton, the most productive wideout in the league in Michael Thomas, a great RB (Alvin Kamara), a solid TE (Jared Cook) and a productive newcomer (Emmanuel Sanders) working opposite Thomas, Brees remains squarely a part of the QB1 conversation.
