In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Josh Allen each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Derek Carr QB NO CAR START Carolina's pass defense is weaker than their run defense and Carr has a good set of receivers. Look for him to put in a serviceable game this week.
Cam Akers RB LAR SF SIT Akers gets knocked twice here, he arguably was playing second fiddle to his backup last week and he goes up against the 49ers defense this week who has a top run defense. Look for other options
Dalvin Cook RB NYJ DAL SIT Similar take with Cook as with Akers. Cook is technically still the lead back, but Hall is much more explosive. This week's matchup with Dallas is one to avoid though.
Zack Moss RB IND HOU START Moss sounds like he's ready to go and step into the starting role in Indy this week. He gets Houston's woeful run defense where he should be a good counter punch to rrushing QB Richardson
Darren Waller TE NYG ARI START Waller comes into the season digned up, again. But, he essentially was pulled early last week in a blow out to get healthy. He reportedly is good to go this week amongst some conflicting injury news on him. But, if he's going against Arizona's notoriously pourus defense vs the TE, you have to roll him out.
Jahon Dotson WR WAS DEN START With McLaurin occupying Denver's top corner, we could see Dotson in the role Jakobi Myers filled last week and lead the Redskins in the passing game.
