StartEm SitEm Sunday Week 14 2023

In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP.  I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Josh Allen each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after.  These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success.  My metrics to get the start decision are:  QB 20 pts or more,  RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement.  Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right.  I'll look at ~3 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player POS Team Opponent Start/Sit Comments
Derek Carr QB NO CAR SIT Assuming that Carr is cleared to play, I'd look to sit him. Carolina is vulnerable to the run, but tough against the pass. Look for the Saints to get behind their rushing attack and minimalize QB involvement.
Aiden O' Connell QB LVR MIN SIT At best, O'Connell is a fringe starter, but he goes against a blitz-heavy scheme by Minnesota this week, we'd recommend pivoting away.
Bijan Robinson RB ATL TB START Robinson gets the nod as a start candidate, even in the face of a stout Tampa Bay run defense. Look for him to be utilized heavily within the passing attack for the Falcons.
Tanner Hudson TE CIN IND START Hudson makes for a fantastic spot-start option in a thin tight end position. He has been consistent with his usage since being utilized, and has a solid floor in all formats for Fantasy managers looking for help.
Dallas Goedert TE PHI DAL START Goedert returns this week and will be leaned upon in a shootout against division-rival Dallas. With a lot of attention being paid to Philadelphia's potent wideouts, Goedert should be a focal point.
Jayden Reed WR GB NYG START Despite coming in with a questionable tag, I'm under the assumption that Reed starts.  This is a great spot for him to bounce back after a disappointing Week 13.
