In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Patrick Mahomes each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Derek Carr QB LV ATL START Vegas loves to run the ball so this could be a situation where all the TDs go to the running backs on the ground, but the ATL matchup is too nice to avoid reommending Carr.
Matt Ryan QB ATL LV SIT This is a tough one. Ryan is averaging 21.7 ppg and LV isn't an avoid defense. LV could also push this into a high scoring affair. However, in the games without Julio this year, Ryan has struggled. Ryan has averaged 23.3 ppg with Julio and 11.5 ppg without. I'd start Carr over Ryan and I'd look for other options if Julio is OUT for this one.
Gus Edwards RB BAL PIT SIT This is a tough game for a start / sit. It's now been delayed 5 days from Thursday to Tuesday. There are no more delays that will allow this game to be played during week 12. As it sits right now, Dobbins and Ingram are in the Covid protocol along with Lamar Jackson. PIt is about as tough as they come against the rush. Edwards isn't used in the passing game and, alhtough RGIII is a cable scrambler, RGIII isn't Lamar Jackson at this stage in his career. Justice Hill will likely be used on 3rd downs if Dobbins and Ingram stay on the Covid protocol. I'd avoid Edwards if other reasonable alternatives present themselves. What makes this tougher is it's hard to use Edwards or Hill for that matter as a handcuff for Dobbins who emerged as the lead back last week in case he doesn't come off Covid because the game also might not be played.
Wayne Gallman RB NYG CIN START Gallman's on a nice 4 week run having emerged as the lead back in New York. He's 4 week ppr average is about 15.5 ppg. Use him this week.
David Montgomery RB CHI GB START Montgomery appears to be back this week. I'd fire him up vs GB who tends to give points to opposing RBs as Jonthan Taylor can attest to last week. The Bears will need to leverage Montgomery if they are to compete in this game.
Jalen Reagor WR PHI SEA START This might be the week Reagor breaks out. He gets the Seahawks defense who are surrendering points to WRs this year. The Eagles will have to protect Wentz, which may never happen. But Reagor has a chance to show us his ceiling in this game.
