In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Patrick Mahomes each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going. This year I'm going to be looking at different ways to integrate daily fantasy pricing and Vegas odds into my decision making process. Good Luck this year!

Player Pos Team Opponent Start / Sit Comment
Marquez Valdes-Scantling WR GNB CHI SIT The outside corners are not the place to attack the Bears' defense. Of course, Adams will get his. Allison has a better matchup vs the slot corner. Use MVS another week.
Aaron Jones RB GNB CHI SIT I don't expect the Pack to have a lot of luck on the ground vs the Bears.
Mark Ingram RB BAL MIA START Miami seems to be in disarray. Baltimore should be able to dictate pace behind Ingram.
Kerryon Johnson RB DET ARI START A nice matchup for Kerryon to get started in his second pro season.
Marquess Goodwin WR SF TB START These are the two presumed starting WRs vs a Tampa Defense in need of help. Look for them to do some damage.
Dante Pettis WR SF TB START See above
TJ Hockenson TE DET ARI START Hockenson, a rookie TE, is typically a long shot to be fantasy relevant. But, this guy is unique. He's going to be involved and Arizona is traditionally weak vs the opposing TE.
Marvin Jones WR DET ARI START The matchup doesn't get much easier with the Cardinals not having Patrick Peterson this week. Despite the Lions' change in identity to a run heavy team, they should be able to open the year with a misdirect on fantasy owners and put in a reasonable passing output.
Kenny Golladay WR DET ARI START See above
Tony Pollard RB DAL NYG START As I write this, Elliott still hasn't signed. Pollard will be a great start if he gets the start in week 1. Obviously, this could all change at any time.
