Dollar Free Agents 2016 Week 3

By Matthew Cherrin
Matthew Cherrin Tyler Kroft- TE- Bengals
In week 1, tight end Tyler Kroft didn’t play because of a knee injury. In week 2 against the Steelers, Kroft out-snapped C.J. Uzomah and recorded three receptions for 35 yards. It’s not clear when starting tight end Tyler Eifert will return to lineup, but in the meantime, Kroft could be a sneaky play for fantasy owners who are in need of a tight end. The Bengals face off against the Broncos on Sunday, which means A.J. Green might have a hard time finding some open space. Expect Kroft to get a couple looks while the Broncos focus on Green. Kroft might be a good tight end option for a couple weeks until Eifert returns.

Fozzy Whittaker- Rb- Panthers
With Jon Stewart getting hurt in the first half last week, Fozzy Whittaker took over the reins and had 16 rushes for 100 yards, and three catches for 31 yards against the 49ers. Carolina has a tough matchup this week as they face the Vikings whose defense has been playing great thus far in 2016. While the Vikings only gave up 50 yards to Eddie Lacy last week, Demarco Murray had found the end zone twice in week 1 against the Vikings, even though it was through the air. Whittaker is a must-pick up in most leagues until Jon Stewart returns.

Ryan Fitzpatrick- QB- Jets
For some reason Ryan Fitzpatrick is available in almost every league I’m in. Maybe fantasy owners don’t trust him because he’s old or because he plays for the Jets who traditionally don’t have a good quarterback. Last week, he completed 24 passes for 374 yards and one score. He has three touchdowns on the season with one pick, and 563 yards through the air. Fitzpatrick also has one of the best receiving cores in the league with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Fitzpatrick isn’t going to be the best option every week, but there will be plenty of matchups where he throws for three touchdowns or 300 yards, or both. Pick him up now for a buck.

Dennis Pitta- TE- Ravens
The long-time and forgotten tight end Dennis Pitta is back healthy this year, and recorded nine receptions for 102 yards against Cleveland in week 2. Pitta led the team in targets with 12 on the day, which tells fantasy owners just how much QB Joe Flacco trusts him compared to his other options on the team. When Pitta was healthy in the past, he was a top five tight end in the league. The Ravens face the Jags on Sunday, and I expect Pitta to be Flacco’s number one target for the second week in the row. Pick him up this week.

Anquan Boldin- WR- Lions
Last week against the Titans, Lions’ wide out Anquan Boldin had four receptions for 48 yards and a score. So far on the season, he has seven receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown on the. He also had a second touchdown taken back due to a Lions penalty. Matthew Stafford has plenty of targets in Detroit, but Boldin might be a good player to pick up in PPR leagues. The Lions want to run the ball, but that never happens. Stafford has 79 pass attempts in the first two games. I expect Boldin to become Stafford’s safety net as the season moves forward. Pick him up now for a buck.

Matt Asiata- RB- Vikings
It looks like Adrian Peterson will be out for a couple weeks, even though that has not been confirmed yet. But it’s definitely a good time to look at picking up Matt Asiata just in case you have Peterson on your team. Asiata out-played and out-touched Jerick McKinnon last week when Peterson got hurt, and Asiata was already playing as the Vikings primary third down back when Peterson was healthy. The Viking have a hard matchup against the Panthers this week, but in PPR leagues, he might be a sleeper type of start. Pick up Asiata now if you have Peterson.

Adam Thielen- WR- Vikings
Surprisingly for the Vikings, both Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen has outperformed number one wide out Charles Johnson thus far in 2016. While Diggs should already be on fantasy football rosters, Thielen might be a player owners should consider stashing on their team. Thielen has been consistent if nothing else in the first two games. He had four receptions for 54 yards in the first game and four receptions for 41 yards in the second game. He should at least be picked up in PPR leagues for owners who are in desperate need of a wide out. He’s available for a buck today.
