By Matthew Cherrin
Matt Breida- RB- 49ers
Fantasy owners who are in need of a running back for their week 17 final might want to consider picking up 49er Matt Breida after last week’s performance against the Jaguars. In week 16 against the number one defense in the league, Breida rushed 11 times for 74 yards and had a game-clinching touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Starting running back Carlos Hyde was struggling to find any room between the tackles last week. Breida might get more opportunities if Hyde continues to struggle in week 17. The 49ers face the Rams, whose defense has given up the 6th most fantasy points to running backs this season. Pick up Breida and start him if you need a running back.
Bryce Petty- QB- Jets
While playing any Jets’ quarterback isn’t the most ideal start in a championship week, Bryce Petty might be a player you want to pick up in week 17. The Jets face the Patriots this week, whose defense has given up the sixth most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. The Patriots’ defense also rank 29th in total passing yards allowed this year. The Jets will more than likely be playing from behind most of the game, which will give Petty plenty of opportunities to throw the ball down field. If you are desperate for a quarterback this week, Petty has the best matchup of all the quarterbacks likely available.
Ted Ginn Jr. - WR- Panthers
The former Ohio State wide receiver might be someone you want to add to your roster this week. Last week against the Falcons, Ginn Jr. caught four passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. The Panther face the Buccaneers on Sunday, whose defense has given up the most fantasy points to wide receivers all season. While Ginn Jr. hasn’t been the most reliable wide out all season, he does have big-play potential, and he only needs one big play for a good fantasy day. Pick him up and start him if you are thin at wide receiver this week.
Washington’s Ryan Grant may be your best option for a dollar pick up this week if you are desperate for a wide receiver. Last week against the Broncos’ tough pass defense, Grant recorded four receptions for 85 yards. The Redskins face the Giants this week, whose defense has given up the 9th most fantasy points to wide receivers this year and rank 31st in passing yards allowed. Grant is a better pick up in full PPR leagues. You can get him for a buck this week.
Benjamin Watson- TE- Ravens
If you need a tight end for your week 17 final, Ravens’ Benjamin Watson might be your guy to pick up for this Sunday. Watson has been one of quarterback Joe Flacco’s favorite targets all year, and in the last two games, Watson has nine receptions for 114 yards and a score. The Ravens face the Bengasl this week, whose defense has given up the 11th most points to tight ends this season. If you need a tight end this week, you can grab Watson for a buck.
T.J. Yeldon- RB- Jaguars
The former starting running back in Jacksonville T.J. Yeldon has seen his playing time increase over the past two weeks. In the last two games, he’s recorded 11 receptions for 89 yards and he had his second rushing touchdown all year last week against the 49ers defense. Yeldon might be a player that fantasy owners in full PPR leagues want to target this week. The Jaguars face the Titans this Sunday, whose defense has given up the 12th most fantasy points to running backs this season. Tennessee ranks fifth in total rushing yards allowed this year, which means that most of the fantasy points that running backs get against the Titans come through the air. Yeldon should see some opportunities this Sunday, and you can get him for a buck.
