Dollar Free Agents 2017 Week 9

By Matthew Cherrin
Matthew Cherrin Jimmy Garoppolo- QB- 49ers It’s too early to tell whether recently traded Jimmy Garoppolo will have an impact with the 49ers this year, but fantasy owners in keeper and dynasty leagues should look at picking up the former Patriot this week while he’s cheap. In two career starts with New England he completed 59 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns. Garoppolo might need a couple weeks to learn head coach Kyle Shanahan’s playbook before getting nod to start. If C.J. Beathard continues to struggle in the next two games, Garoppolo has a chance to start after the 49ers bye week. Pick up Garoppolo now and see if he becomes the starter in week 12.

Jake Butt- TE- Denver Another player that keeper and dynasty fantasy owners should think about is Broncos’ tight end Jake Butt. The former Michigan player and John Mackey award winner (given to the nation’s best tight end) was one of the best in college football last year until he tore his ACL in his final game as a Wolverine. According to the Denver Post, Butt might suit up this weekend against the Eagles. I wouldn’t expect much out of Butt for the rest of season, but he is a great keeper and dynasty asset that you want to add to your team for a buck.

Kenyan Drake- RB- Dolphins With the departure of running back Jay Ajayi, Dolphins could turn to Kenyan Drake to take over the running duties. It’s not clear who could get the majority of the carries between Drake and Damien Williams, but last week against the Ravens, Drake saw more touches than Williams. He rushed six times for 22 yards last Thursday night. If you have running back on a bye week, Drake may be a player you could plug in for a week until its more clear who will get the majority of the playing time. Expect a shared workload for both Drake and Williams in week 9 against the Raiders, whose defense has allowed the eighth most points to running backs this season.

T.J. Jones- WR- Lions Even with Golden Tate back from an injury, T.J. Jones saw plenty of targets from Lions’ quarterback Matthew Stafford on Sunday night against the Steelers. In fact, Jones has been targeted 17 times in the Lions’ last two games. He managed four receptions for 88 yards in week 8, and has 17 receptions for 261 yards this season. The Lions face the Packers on Monday night, whose defense has given up the eight most fantasy points to wide receivers this year. If you have a wide out on bye week, Jones could be your guy to pick up and plug into your lineup for a bucks this week.

Leonte Carroo- WR- Dolphins The second year wide receiver out of Rutgers, Leonte Carroo, hasn’t seen much playing time in his career, but he had his best week in the NFL last Thursday against the Ravens. He managed to catch 6-8 targets for 48 yards as the Ravens blew out the Dolphins. Part of Carroo’s extra playing time has been because of consistently injured DeVante Parker. But Parker is expected to be back in week 9. While Carroo doesn’t have much potential this year, he could be worth stashing on your roster in keeper and dynasty leagues. There have been trade rumors about Jarvis Landry all year, and Parker hasn’t been able to stay healthy his entire career. Who knows, Carroo might end up being a good player when he finally gets his chance to play.

Robby Anderson- WR- Jets Jets’ second year wide receiver Robby Anderson has put up quality fantasy numbers this season. So far on the year he has 37 receptions for 435 yards and three scores. Last week against the Falcons in crummy weather conditions, he had six receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. Anderson has seen a steady amount of targets all season. His lowest amount of targets was in week 2 with four, and his highest was in week 6 with 12. Anderson should be a player fantasy for owners to target if they have a wide out on a bye week. He’s also someone dynasty and keeper league managers should seriously think about adding to their roster. Get him for a buck today.
