Dollar Free Agents 2016 Week 7

By Matthew Cherrin
Matthew Cherrin Knile Davis- RB- Packers
With James Starks going down and Eddie Lacy banged up, the Packers acquired Knile Davis from the Chiefs Tuesday morning to help with their running back woes. Last week against the Cowboys, the Packers used wide receiver Ty Montgomery as a running back because they lost so many other running backs due to injury. With Davis added to the depth chart, the Packers finally have a little more depth. Davis hasn’t had much playing time this year or the year before, but in 2014 he recorded seven total touchdowns. He might be player you want to pick up for a dollar if you have Lacy.

Kenny Britt- WR- Rams
Usually I try to stay away from any Ram on offense, but wide out Kenny Britt has quietly produced in 2016. Last week against the Lions, he had seven receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns. So far on the season, he has 30 receptions for 492 yards. Britt was once an upcoming star with the Titans until he got into some legal issues and had to recover from a couple in juries. Britt has the talent, but does he have the right quarterback to get his game to the next level? Pick up Britt this week if you have a wide out on a bye week.

Vernon Davis- TE- Red Skins
The former 49ers’ tight end Vernon Davis found pay-dirt for the first time in 2016 last week when he replaced the injured Jordan Reed in the starting lineup. If Reed continues to miss games due to injury, Davis could be a player that fantasy owners should target. This week, the Red Skins face the Lions, who have given up the 4th most points to tight ends this year in fantasy. Reed has a history of being injured, so it might be a good idea to pick up Davis this week just in case his injury lingers. Fantasy owners that have a tight end on a bye week should pick up Davis this week if Reed can’t suit up for the second straight game.

Cody Kessler- QB- Browns
For those fantasy owners who have a quarterback on a bye, you might want to take a look at Cody Kessler this week against the Bengals. Head Coach Hue Jackson named Kessler the starter in week 7, even if Josh McCown is back from his collarbone injury. The Browns face the Bengals defense this week, who has given up the 7th most fantasy points to quarterbacks all year. The Bengals have allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for two or more touchdowns in five of six games this year. Kessler had his fist 300 yards game of his career last week, and also threw for two touchdowns. Only pick him up and start him this week if your QB is on a bye.

Ty Montgomery- WR- Packers
Even with the Packers trading for Knile Davis this week, owners should look at picking up Ty Montgomery. Last week against the Cowboys, Montgomery filled in as the primary third downs back and recorded 10 receptions for 98 yards. Even if Davis gets a ton of carries, Montgomery will most likely keep his third down back responsibilities considering how well he performed last week. Also, with Devante Adams leaving the game early on Sunday, the Packers could also use Montgomery as the third wide out for the team. Pick up Montgomery this week for a buck.

Antone Smith- RB- Buccaneers
The Buccaneers signed former Falcon and Bear Antone Smith this week. With Doug Martin still questionable this week against the 49ers and Charles Simms on the IR, the Bucs needed someone who could fill in for Jacquizz Rodgers in case he goes down as well. Smith has seen some success in the past. He didn’t play last year much, but in 2014 he averaged 6.3 yards per carry and had two scores on the ground; he also 13 receptions for 222 yards and three more touchdowns through the air. If you have Doug Martin or you are in desperate need of a running back, pick up Smith this week
