Recapping the Injuries week 17 2017

By Armando Marsal
Armando Marsal This has been a season filled with injuries, which has really impacted fantasy teams. Week 16 was no different and as usual, below I will go over some of this week’s injuries and how they could impact teams down the stretch, let’s take a look.

DeMarco Murray – Titans: Murray left Sunday’s game with a knee injury and after further tests, it is determined the he suffered a sprained LCL. While it appears that he avoided a serious injury, it is unlikely that he will suit up in the Titans season finale. Derrick Henry is expected to receive the majority of the workload should Murray miss.

Joe Mixon – Bengals: Mixon suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s win over the Lions. He attempted to come back into the game, but after being taken to the locker room and evaluated, he was ruled out. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but with the Bengals having nothing to play for in Week 17, there is no need to risk further damage to Mixon’s ankle who is their potential back of the future. We should know more regarding his status later in the week. If Mixon is unable to play, Gio Bernard will get the start and the majority of the reps out of the backfield.

Melvin Gordon – Chargers: Gordon suffered an ankle injury late in Sunday’s game against the Jets and was in a walking boot after the game. Initial reports suggest that Gordon could miss the Chargers final game against the Raiders. If he does miss, Austin Ekeler who is dealing with a broken hand and Branden Oliver will likely split the workload. This is a must win game for the Chargers, so I expect Gordon to give it his all to be on the field. It is a situation worth keeping a close eye on throughout the week.

Aaron Jones – Packers: Jones who was battling knee issues heading into Saturday’s game, suffered a knee injury that knocked him out of the game. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but the fact that knee injuries have kept him out of games this season, could indicate that his shot to play in Week 17 is slim. Jamaal Williams will be the featured back if Jones misses.

Damiere Byrd – Panthers: Byrd injured his knee in Sunday’s game against the Bucs and was carted to the locker room. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but normally when a player is carted it is not good news. We should know more regarding the severity of the injury and his status for Week 17 later in the week.

Jordy Nelson – Packers: Nelson left Saturday’s game against the Vikings with a shoulder injury and was unable to return. The veteran receiver suffered the injury after catching a pass. He attempted to stay in the game, but was unable to. There have been no updates regarding the severity of the injury, but the Packers have nothing to play for in their final game, so there is no need to run out their veteran receiver. That said, it is a situation worth monitoring throughout the week.

Evan Engram – Giants: Engram suffered a rib injury during Sunday’s game against the Cardinals and was forced to miss the rest of the game. Although there are no reports updating the severity, there is a good chance that the team shuts Engram out for the remainder of the season as they have nothing to play for. Rhett Ellison will likely fill in for Engram if he is unable to play, but Ellison can be considered more of a blocking tight end.
