Recapping the Injuries week 1 2016

By Armando Marsal
Armando Marsal It did not take much time for Fantasy owners to be affected by injuries. On Sunday, several notable players suffered and injury. Some more serious than others. It is part of the game and something we will be dealing with all season. Let’s take a look at some of the injuries that occurred this week.

Russell Wilson – Seahawks: Wilson suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday’s win over the Dolphins. Although he was able to play through the injury, it was clear that he was bothered by it as he was not as mobile as he usually is. Initial reports are that this is a significant injury and his Week 2 status is in question. This is definitely something you want to keep an eye on. Fantasy owners should have a backup plan in case Wilson does indeed miss the next game.

Robert Griffin III – Browns: Griffin suffered a sprained shoulder in his non-throwing arm in Week 1 loss to the Eagles. After the game he admitted to be in pain, but initial reports are that he will be ready to go next week. He will undergo an MRI on Monday. He completed 12 of his 26 pass attempts for 190 yards and an interception. If he misses any time, Josh McCown will likely start in his place.

Keenan Allen – Chargers: This was tough to watch. Allen suffered a non-contact injury, was carted off the field, and immediately we feared the worse. He will have tests done on Monday, but initial reports are that he tore his ACL. We will keep you posted on this as we hear it, but fantasy owners should already be looking into adding a wide receiver off of waivers to replace Allen.

Mohamed Sanu – Falcons: Sanu had a nice debut in Atlanta. He caught five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. He also added a two point conversion. Reports are that Sanu was seen “limping heavily” following the game. This is not expected to be a serious injury, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on. He could see a large role as the No. 2 wide receiver on this offense. If he is available on the waivers, you may want to add him. Especially for those who are Keenan Allen owners.

Julio Jones – Falcons: Jones tweaked his ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Bucs. This was the same ankle he injured in the third preseason game. After the season opener, Jones said he was not concerned with his ankle. He caught four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. For now, Fantasy owners should not panic. However, keep an eye on his status throughout the week.

Randall Cobb – Packers: Cobb had to be helped off the field after turning his ankle against the Jags. The good news is that he quickly got back on the field and was able to play through the injury. He caught six of his weight targets for 58 yards. Barring setbacks, he should be able to play in Week 2 against the Vikings. We will monitor his status and update you as necessary.

Jeremy Maclin – Chiefs: Maclin exited Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter after sustaining a helmet to helmet hit. The Chiefs wen into overtime and Maclin did not play. He was being evaluated for a concussion. After the game, Coach Andy Reid said that Maclin passed his tests. We will keep a close eye on Maclin’s status and update you as we hear it. He caught five passes for 63 yards and a touchdown in the season opener.
