DFS Week 4 Flex Targets DraftKings 2018

The flex position really adds a unique dynamic to lineup construction as you can plug in a receiver, running back, or even a tight end. Using the flex position wisely can allow you to differentiate and create unique lineups. Every week calls for different situations, so depending on what the slate gives you and pricing, will determine on how you utilize this position. As usual, I’ll go over some players that I am targeting in the main slate this weekend that can be plugged into the flex spot.

Running Back

Giovani Bernard $6,300 at Atlanta Falcons
Bernard is coming off of a nice performance, as he rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, and added five catchers (nine targets) for 25 yards, scoring 19.6 DKFP last week against the Panthers. His price is up $400 from last week, but it is still reasonable considering his expected workload and the matchup at hand. He faces off against the Falcons who have allowed the most receptions (36) and the second most receiving yards (255) to opposing backs, while yielding the second most fantasy points per game. They also rank dead last in DVOA against the run. Bernard should continue to be heavily involved in the Bengals offense with Joe Mixon sidelined and makes for a very appealing option in all formats.

Sony Michel $4,500 vs. Miami Dolphins
Last game, Michel played in 48 percent of the offensive snaps and accounted for 12 percent of the Patriots targets share. He faces off this week against a Dolphins defense that is giving up over 25 DKFP per game. This defense has also surrendered 249 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as well as 23 receptions for 201 yards and a touchdown to opposing backs. Michel is capable of both running in between the tackles and catch passes out of the backfield, making him a high-risk, high-reward option this week. This matchup is one that is appealing and with Rex Burkhead on the injured reserve, Michel should see more opportunities this week.

Wide Receiver

Sterling Shepard $4,900 vs. New Orleans Saints
Shepard had his best game of the season last week, catching 6-of-7 targets for 80 yards and a touchdown, scoring 20 DKFP. This week he faces off against the Saints who have allowed the most receiving yards, most touchdowns, and are also yielding the most DKFP per game to wide outs. Evan Engram will miss this game as he nurses an MCL sprain, so Shepard should see an increased workload this week in what appears to be a favorable matchup on paper. So far this season, Shepard has received 23 targets which is good for 17 percent of the target share. This game has a 50 point over/under and the Giants are slight underdogs, so the game script should favor him in this one. When you put all the pieces of the puzzle together, the price is just too cheap for Shepard considering the situation, making him an intriguing target in all formats.

Allen Robinson $5,900 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Robinson underwhelmed last week, catching just 3-of-7 targets for 50 yards. That said, he remains the most targeted receiver for Chicago, accounting for 27 percent of the target share. He draws a phenomenal matchup against the Bucs who are yielding the second most DKFP per game to opposing receivers, while allowing the most receptions, fourth most receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns to the position. His one-on-one matchup against Brent Grimes is one that favors him as he has a 20 percent advantage rating, per PFF. Robison should bounce back this week and possesses plenty of upside in this matchup. At this price, he can be considered a viable option in all formats. He will likely be low-owned because of his subpar performance last week, making him even more enticing.

Tight End

Ben Watson $3,300 at New York Giants
If you are looking at this season’s stats, you may not realize how poor this Giants defense is at defending tight ends. Through the first three weeks, they have allowed just eight catches for 140 yards, giving up just 7.3 DKFP per game. That said, they have not really had any tough tight end matchups this season. In fact, Watson is arguably the best tight end they face this season. Last year however, the Giants allowed the second most fantasy points per game to the position, while yielding 12 touchdowns which is the most allowed by any defense. Watson’s targets have been trending in the right direction, receiving 11 targets in the last two games after only seeing four in Week 1. While there is not a ton of upside here, he offers a safe floor in comparison to his price tag.
