LOS ANGELES RAMS UPDATE

lGOFF'S GOOD TO GO; EVERETT CLOSE; ZUERLEIN A CONCERN

Following up on this week's Team Notes. ... Jared Goff's injured hand clearly affected his play in the second half of the Los Angeles Rams' blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but with their playoff hopes dangling by a micrometer it won't keep the quarterback out of Saturday's game versus the San Francisco 49ers.

Goff banged his throwing hand on a helmet during Sunday's crushing loss in Dallas.

"It's good. It's a little contusion, it's a little stiff, but I'll be good in a day or two," Goff said of his injury, via the L.A. Daily News.

The Rams agree.

As Profootblltalk.com notes, Goff wasn’t mentioned at all on the Tuesday report, which given that the Rams play the 49ers on Saturday operated as the normal Wednesday report. Then, on Wednesday, Goff appeared on the report with a right thumb injury, with a designation that he fully participated in practice.

"He'll be able to do everything," head coach Sean McVay confirmed. "Fortunately, it's like one of those deals where you get it banged and it's like anything else -- probably scares you more than anything at first because it is such an irritating thing when you're trying to grip the ball."

Goff's throwing was clearly hindered by the injury during the second half Sunday, as some of his passes were badly off the mark.

But the Rams' offense was an issue well before the quarterback's hand clanged off a helmet.

As NFL.com noted, with the Rams' run-game stymied, there was no rhythm to the offense, and Goff generated just 117 first-half passing yards with a TD and an INT as L.A. got down big. We've seen time and time again this season, when opponents stop Todd Gurley and make Goff beat them, he's either magic or tragic. Far too often, he's been tragic.

Of more concern, kicker Greg Zuerlein has a quad injury that the Rams are closely monitoring ahead of Saturday's must-win game against the 49ers.

"We do expect him to be able to play," McVay said. "But we'll kick him later in the week and see how he's feeling."

The Rams are monitoring the free agent market for kickers, just in case.

Beyond that, the Rams have been without Gerald Everett for nearly a month now after he injured his knee in Week 12 against the Ravens. Tyler Higbee has had at least seven catches and 100 yards in each game Everett has missed, so the Rams haven’t been lacking production at tight end.

It appears Everett is poised to return relatively soon, though. He was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, which is the first time he’s been listed as such since before suffering the injury.

That doesn’t mean he’s on track to play Saturday against the 49ers, but it is a good sign for the progress he’s made.

McVay said the Rams are still “kind of feeling it out,” indicating Everett still needs to get healthier before he returns.

Stay tuned. I'll have more on Zuerlein and Everett as the week progresses.
