Paul Perkins – RB – New York Giants

The Giants have essentially had no run game over the last few seasons which have led to up and down results from Eli Manning. Enter Perkins who ran for 1,575 yards in 2014 and 1,343 in 2015 adding 23 TDs on the ground on just 488 carries. That is good for 5.9 YPC, which the Giants can only dream to get that sort of production. Perkins can come in right away and play so don’t be surprised if he puts up big fantasy football numbers early and often. The Giants don’t have much in terms of RB with just Rashad Jennings, Andre Ellington, and Shane Vereen standing in front of him. Getting Perkins in the 5th round could be one of the biggest draft steals that no one is talking about.

Rashard Higgins – WR – Cleveland Browns

The Browns got an absolute steal in the 5th round when they drafted Higgins, who blew up in 2014 at Colorado State by catching 96 passes for 1,750 yards and 17 TDs then his QB got drafted and he had to deal with a new QB in 2015 but still caught 75 passes for 1,062 yards and eight TDs. He is 6’2 and when he and his QB develop a rhythm he is pretty amazing on the field. The Browns don’t really have anyone at WR so he will get playing time early and often which could lead to him being a surprise fantasy football contributor.

Rico Gathers – TE – Dallas Cowboys

Gathers in a physical specimen who played basketball at Baylor and hasn’t played football since high school. The Cowboys need someone to finally take over the TE position when Jason Witten finally retires. Gathers is 6’8 and can really go up and compete on jump balls. If Gathers gets the hang of things early you could see him making a fantasy football splash early as the Cowboys don’t have much at TE behind Witten. Gathers is trying to do exactly what Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates did, getting him in the 6th round could end up being a pleasant surprise.

Kenny Lawler – WR – Seattle Seahawks

Lawler could have went back to college and probably gotten drafted in the 7th round but you can’t blame him with his college QB, Jared Goff, getting drafted 1st overall and he was coming off his best season at Cal. Lawler is raw in terms of being ready to play right away but the Seahawks don’t have a ton of talent at WR and Lawler pulled in just 52 passes for 13 TDs in his Jr season at Cal. Standing at 6’3 he a nightmare for DBs to matchup with on defense in the red-zone as his 13 TDs go to show. He could come in right away and be the 3rd WR for Seattle and put up some major fantasy football points in his rookie season. Having Russell Wilson throw the football to you over Goff is going to be quite the upgrade.

Nelson Spruce – WR – LA Rams

The Rams were quick to sign Spruce as an undrafted free agent and he could come in and have an immediate impact in the fantasy football world with the Rams breaking in new QB Jared Goff. Spruce had back to back seasons at Colorado of over 1,000 yards receiving with sub-par QB play and playing against teams in the Pac-12 that are just flat out more talented than Colorado. Spruce has a knack for finding a way to get open and make big plays.

Devon Cajuste – TE – San Francisco

Cajuste fits the Chip Kelly ran fast paced offense as he is a smaller TE, standing just 6’3 but he is an athletic guy who has great ball skills. He played at Stanford which is primarily a run first offense, and the majority of their passes go their RBs or short drop offs. Given that Cajuste was still able to average 17.7 yards per catch through his career as a Cardinal and he caught 14 TDs over the last three seasons proves he has some skills. He could come in right away and score some major fantasy football points as the 49ers don’t have anything special at TE or WR, and Cajuste can line up as a hybrid TE/WR.

Tre Madden – RB – Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks don’t have a ton of talent in the RB department outside of Thomas Rawls, who is coming off an impressive rookie campaign but also coming off of and injury. The likes of Christine Michael, Bryce Brown, and Fred Jackson aren’t going to scare any opposing defenses. Madden played well in 2013 running for 703 yards and adding 201 receiving yards for a total of 7 TDs. He was injured and did not play in 2014 and when he came back in 2015 he put up the same type of production in a smaller sample size. He could come in right away and be the 3rd down RB for the Seahawks as he excels in the pass catching aspect of the RB game and he is great in open space. If Madden makes the roster he will most likely be a nice FLEX option to watch for your fantasy football team.
