Reporting in recent days suggested the Tennessee Titans were not interested in Tom Brady and were working hard to get a deal done with quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

And that's what happened.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the two sides agreed to a four-year deal worth $118 million. Tannehill gets $91 million in total guarantees and $62 million in fully guaranteed money.

It's a huge payday after Tannehill led Tennessee to the playoffs.

As ESPN.com's Turron Davenport noted, Tennessee was widely speculated as a potential free-agent destination for Brady, given the Titans' impressive postseason run and Brady's friendship with Titans coach Mike Vrabel. Sources told ESPN's Jeff Darlington last month that Brady, at the time, was operating under the belief that he would enter free agency to play somewhere other than the New England Patriots next season.

If it plays out that way, Tennessee won't be Brady's destination.

And it makes sense for the Titans to stick with Tannehill on multiple levels.

As USA Today's Doug Farrar noted this week, something clicked between Tannehill and Tennessee offensive coordinator Arthur Smith this season.

The Titans were 2-4 after Marcus Mariota’s last start, having scored seven total points in their previous two games. They then finished the season 9-7 and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game with Tannehill, who ultimately was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year for 2019 after he finished with an NFL-high 117.5 passer rating while throwing for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 12 games. He completed 70.3 percent of his passes and averaged 9.6 yards per completion.

He led the league in yards per attempt, adjusted yards per attempt, yards per completion, net yards per attempt, adjusted net yards per attempt and passer rating.

Beyond that, With the Ryan Tannehill deal done, Tennessee can now franchise tag RB Derrick Henry — keeping both of their key players from the 2019 season.
