Cooks Gets Two-Year Extension From The Texans
As NFL.com reported, with his name bandied about in trade rumblings, wide receiver Brandin Cooks is going nowhere.

The Houston Texans have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Cooks, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.

While firm numbers are not yet available, Rapoport reports that Cooks should be able to earn just under $20 million per year through 2024.

Drafted 20th overall in 2014 by the New Orleans Saints, Cooks has played for the Saints, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams and Texans, and been traded three times in his career. For now at least, Cooks is not being traded for a fourth time despite the Texans receiving interest for him.

It's a substantial signing for the Texans as the 28-year-old is the most notable name and easily one of the best players on a talent-starved Houston roster.

Last year Cooks led the Texans with 90 catches for 1,037 yards and six touchdowns.

Since arriving in the NFL, the 2014 first-round pick hasn't experienced the kind of breakthrough that put him in the elite tier at his position. He has yet to earn a Pro Bowl nod through eight seasons.

However, as BleacherReport.com notes, the floor for Cooks has always remained high. He has failed to crack 1,000 yards only twice. The first was when he was limited to 10 games as a rookie and the second came in 2019, when he had to compete for targets with Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods on the Los Angeles Rams.

For his career, the Oregon State product is averaging 4.8 receptions and 66.5 yards per game, and he has a 65.8 percent catch rate. He'll continue to provide the Davis Mills and the Houston offense with a play-making presence it otherwise lacks.
