Recapping the Injuries week 9 2017

By Armando Marsal
Armando Marsal Week 8 was not as injury filled as some of the past weeks, but we still saw a handful of injuries, some of which could force players to miss some time and even the season. As usual, I will go over some of this past week’s injuries and how it may affect teams around the league.

Joe Flacco – Ravens: Flacco took a big hit from Kiko Alonso in Thursday night’s game against the Dolphins. He was running for a first down and slid, but Alonso kept charging towards Flacco and hit him hard, forcing him out of the game. He never returned and was diagnosed with a concussion, but reports on Monday suggest that he is no longer dealing with symptoms of a concussion. It was also reported that he should practice this week and could play in Week 9. It is a situation to keep an eye on because the Ravens play the Titans in Week 9, a defense that has allowed 13 passing touchdowns this season.

Chris Hogan – Patriots: Hogan suffered a shoulder injury late in Sunday’s contest. He did not return into the game after the injury and was seen in a sling after the game was over. He was set to undergo an MRI on Monday, but there have been no updates regarding the MRI. Once those test results come in, we should have a better idea of the severity of the injury. It is worth noting that the team believes this is a minor injury, so fantasy owners do not need to panic at this time.

Duke Johnson – Browns: Johnson exited Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter for a head injury and was being evaluated for a concussion. He never returned to the game, but was cleared from the concussion protocol following the game. The Browns have a bye this week, giving Johnson an extra week’s worth of rest, and he should be ready to roll against the Lions in Week 10 barring any setbacks.

Zach Miller – Bears: Miller suffered a dislocated knee in Sunday’s loss total Saints. The injury occurred as he attempted to make a very nice catch for a touchdown, which was later ruled an incomplete pass. He was taken to a local hospital where he eventually needed emergency vascular surgery to save his leg. The surgery was a success according to reports, but his season is over and his career is in question. This is a serious injury and we wish Miller the best, hoping for a healthy and speedy recover.

Jordan Reed – Redskins: The often injured Reed suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. He was ruled out shortly after the injury and could miss Week 9. This is the risk you take when drafting Reed as he has yet to play a full season in his NFL career. Niles Paul also went down with a concussion, leaving Vernon Davis to potentially see a big boost in his role.
