DETROIT LIONS UPDATE

lSTAFFORD THROWING DURING THURSDAY'S OPEN PORTION OF PRACTICE

Following up on a previous item. ... Matthew Stafford did not practice on Wednesday and said after the session that he is “just going to take it day by day” with the right thumb injury that he suffered last weekend.

Thursday brought a change in his practice workload.

Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports (via Profootballtalk.com) that Stafford was throwing during the open period of practice.

Meinke reports that he completed nine passes to teammates and noted that Stafford was not throwing at full speed. Head coach Matt Patricia didn’t offer much of a hint about practice plans before the session.

“Rest is good, but reps are good, so trying to balance that out,” Patricia said.

Stay tuned. I'll obviously continue to follow Stafford's progress closely while watching for developments with Kenny Golladay, T.J. Hockenson and the rest of the nicked-up receiving corps

For the record, Meinke reported D'Andre Swift wasn't seen anywhere during the about 15 minutes that were open to media. Danny Amendola (hip) was still out, while Marvin Jones (knee) was back. Golladay did practiced for a second straight day and looked good to Meinke.
