Kenny Golladay 2022 Outlook
As NorthJersey.com put it, "Golladay was supposed to be the game-breaking, vertical threat that the Giants were missing in their passing game. However, the struggles of the team's presumptive top receiving target have been front and center inside the offense's overall woes. ..." It was a disappointing New York debut for Golladay, who injured his hamstring early in training camp and then missed three games with a knee injury. The two-time 1,000-yard receiver struggled to find his footing without a runway into the regular season, a near-month-long absence and a revolving door at quarterback. Golladay's issues were compounded by a horrible offense. When all was said and done, the Giants scored an NFL-low 24 touchdowns -- 23 on offense -- and finished 31st in the NFL with an average of 15.2 points, 297.3 total yards and 188.0 passing yards a game. All that said, the former third-round pick by the Lions has proven that he can elevate a team's passing game. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2019 after reeling in 65 catches for 1,190 yards and a league-high 11 touchdowns. One season earlier, he notched a career-high 70 catches for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns. Can he regain some of that scoring prowess with new head coach Brian Daboll at the helm of this offense? It might be worth a late-round flier to find out.
Kenny Golladay 2021 Outlook
Golladay signed a four-year contract worth up to $76 million with $40 million guaranteed with the Giants. The Bengals made a prove-it offer early in free agency, and the Bears came on strong with a significant push to add him opposite Allen Robinson, but Golladay clicked with Giants coaches. ... He emerged as the Lions' top receiving option the past three seasons, including a Pro Bowl berth in 2019, when he amassed 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had hoped to improve on that in 2020, but hamstring and hip injuries limited him to five games. A third-round pick by the Lions 2017, the 27-year-old Golladay played in 47 games for Detroit, making 183 catches for 3,068 yards and 21 touchdowns. But it's fair to wonder if Golladay will continue to enjoy the 20-plus percent target share he earned in his best seasons as a Lion. In New York, Golladay joins an offense (that ranked 26th in total pass attempts last season) led by play caller Jason Garrett and triggerman Daniel Jones, with a pair of formidable wideouts in Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, Pro Bowl tight ends Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph, a motivated Saquon Barkley, who is coming off a torn ACL and rookie playmaker Kadarius Toney.
Kenny Golladay 2020 Outlook
Eleven wide receivers averaged $15 million per season on their contracts in 2019. Golladay deserves to leap into this group soon. He generated 1,190 yards on 65 receptions with 11 TDs in 2019. He ranked sixth in the NFL in yards, and only rookie A.J. Brown averaged more yards per catch than Golladay's 18.3 among all wideouts with 50 or more catches. Golladay also led all WRs in TD catches, was second in 20-plus-yard receptions (22), and tied for sixth in 40-plus yarders (6). As good as he was, Golladay could have been better. Per NFL.com, Golladay averaged more than four points per catch in the games Matthew Stafford started. When Stafford, who was playing extremely well, went down with injury after eight games, it would have been natural to expect Golladay's production to fall off. It did not. Despite games with Jeff Driskel and David Blough slinging pigskins, Golladay continued to put up numbers and be a big-play threat. In fact, he tied for third in top-20 finishes among wide receivers, and he tied for the second-most 20-plus points games (5) in 2019. He also tied for sixth in games with 25 or more fantasy points. Bottom line? As NFL.com put it: "Golladay is a surefire second-round selection in 2020 drafts.'
