Following up on this week's
Team Notes. ... The Cowboys began preparations for Sunday's game against the Eagles very shorthanded. Receiver
Amari Cooper (quadriceps), receiver
Randall Cobb (back), left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle), right tackle La’el Collins (knee), cornerback Byron Jones (hamstring), cornerback Anthony Brown (hamstring) and defensive end Dorance Armstrong (neck) did not work with the team Wednesday.
Cooper played only three snaps against the Jets, catching one pass for 3 yards before leaving Sunday.
“We’ll take his situation day by day,” Garrett said of Cooper. “Obviously, he’s as tough as they come and does everything he can to get himself in position to play and play through some of those things. He’s done that throughout his career. He’s done that for us. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out the other day. We’ll take his situation day by day, and hopefully he can practice as the week goes on.”
If Cooper and Cobb can't play, then
Michael Gallup would have to become a bigger factor in the passing game after dropping three balls last week.
Devin Smith, who had a 51-yard touchdown catch in Week 2, would also be an option.
As ESPN.com's Todd Archer suggested, it's not a good week to go in hurting against Philadelphia in spots that the Eagles could exploit (line, cornerback) or that the Cowboys could exploit (facing the 29th-ranked pass defense).
Jourdan Lewis would move into a starting corner role if Jones and Brown are out, but that would leave the Cowboys with only three corners on the roster, which could require them to call up Mike Jackson from the practice squad.
Stay tuned. I'll continue to follow up as the week progresses.
