Amari Cooper 2021 Outlook
It wasn't a Pro Bowl season, but statistically 2020 was the best of Cooper's two-and-a-half years in Dallas even with rookie CeeDee Lamb coming on strong. In the first season of his five-year, $100 million deal, Cooper became just the fourth player in Cowboys' history to reach 90 catches. He caught 71.9 percent of his 128 receiving targets, the best percentage of any Cowboys' wide receiver, according to Pro Football Focus. Cooper also reached the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth time in six NFL seasons despite constant changes to the quarterback position, starting with Dak Prescott's season-ending ankle injury in October. The Cowboys started four different quarterbacks (Prescott, Andy Dalton, Ben DiNucci, Garrett Gilbert) and Cooper caught at least one pass from all four. Cooper also has been durable, appearing in all 41 games since arriving from Oakland in the middle of the 2018 season. In January, he had minor clean-up surgery on his ankle that limited him in off-season work, but coach Mike McCarthy is hopeful Cooper will be ready for training camp. Of course, there are far more significant injury situations to monitor on the Cowboys' roster, but the most critical, Prescott's, is also on track. There's no doubt a healthier offense will make Cooper's job much easier.
Amari Cooper 2020 Outlook
It took a protracted staring contest, but Cooper got the contract he wanted from the Cowboys ($100 million over five seasons with $60 million in guarantees -- a deal befitting a top-10 receiver). He could have earned considerably more if he joined the Redskins, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, but Dak Prescott and Cooper are far better together than apart, something fantasy owners know well. Cooper was an absolute star in the first half of the season, averaging nearly 19 fantasy points per game. Unfortunately, he wound up spending copious time down the stretch on the injury report, with injuries to a foot, a quadriceps, an ankle and a knee. As NFL.com noted, Cooper produced 22-plus points in three of his first five games, but he scored over 20 points in just two more games the rest of the season. Still, Cooper played in every game, making 79 catches for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns. In 25 games with the Cowboys after a trade from the Raiders, Cooper has 132 catches for 1,914 yards and 14 touchdowns. With Prescott on the tag (for now), Elliott locked in with his long-term deal and Cooper on board, the Cowboys will once again boast an impressive trio of players at their primary skill positions and Cooper remains a WR1 candidate for fantasy owners.
