Broncos Bringing Melvin Gordon Back To Denver
As Profootballtalk.com's Charean Williams framed it: "Melvin Gordon had 203 carries for 918 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Javonte Williams had 203 carries for 903 yards and four touchdowns.

"The duo could be together again in 2022 on the new-look Broncos. ..."

In fact, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting Gordon is re-signing with Denver, as the two sides have agreed to terms on a 1-year deal worth up to $5 million.

The news was initially reported by Jordan Schultz of ESPN. Denver Post staffer Ryan O'Halloran quickly confirming Schultz's reporting that the two sides were finalizing a deal.

Now it's done.

Gordon has had 478 touches for 2,275 yards and 20 touchdowns the past two seasons with the Broncos. He spent his first five seasons with the Chargers, twice earning Pro Bowl honors.

Gordon played with Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson at Wisconsin in 2011. Gordon had only 20 carries in his freshman season, which was Wilson’s final college season.

Gordon, 29, recently visited the Ravens, but nothing came of that visit beyond initial talks.

While the Broncos benefit from a 1-2 punch featuring Williams and Gordon, fantasy managers hoping to see the former take on more of a lead role will have to wait and see a bit longer to see if that's how it works out with Gordon back in the fold.

According to O'Halloran, unclear is if the Broncos have told Gordon he will have a supporting role to Williams. Gordon started all 16 of his games last year.

Whatever the case, Williams was ready for this outcome. He addressed with reporters the possibility of Gordon re-signing early today.

“Whatever [G.M.] George [Paton] has planned, I’m ready,” Williams said, via PFT. “If I have to split carries, or if I’m the starter — it doesn’t matter. Whatever it is, I’m just trying to win the Super Bowl.”

Last month, new coach Nathaniel Hackett made it clear that he wants to have plenty of help at tailback.

“You always want to have as many as you can,” Hackett said at the league meetings. “You want a big stable. You want to have a guy that you can feed and make sure he gets a lot. ... You want to make sure you can split it as much as you can. I think last year, we had a great -- actually, a lot of the places that I’ve been, there’s always been kind of two guys because you always want to try to split the load as much as you can. At the same time, he’s a great player. We’ll just have to see how the whole thing goes.”

We now know how it will go in 2022. Williams and Gordon, sharing the load in the running game for the Broncos.

Given this development, those drafting in ongoing best-ball drafts should dial back on Williams a bit as the second-year man has been going in the tail end of the first round up to this point.

That said, he's not likely to fall far with a mid-second round price likely coming while Gordon's current ADP (he's being drafted as an RB4 over the last month).
