Report: Aaron Rodgers Plans To Play For Packers This Season
It appears Aaron Rodgers' long summer of frustration with the Green Bay Packers will end back where it started: With the reigning MVP under center for the green and gold.

Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he does plan to play for the Packers this season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per sources.

Rapoport adds, however, that there are "many factors at play."

But with GM Brian Gutekunst saying at today's shareholders meeting at Lambeau Stadium he is "hopeful" for a positive outcome, there is a glimmer of optimism.

CEO Mark Murphy also offered the following on Rodgers today, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com: "We want him back, we're committed to him for 2021 and beyond. He's our leader and we're looking forward to winning another Super bowl." Murphy also called it a "challenging situation but let's not forget all the great things he's done."

Murphy went on to say Gutekunst as the right person to lead the football program.

One person yelled, "I've never seen him throw a touchdown," but the reception consisted of "mostly cheers."

Gutekunst, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, drew the biggest cheer of the day when saying that Rodgers will be "continuing his Hall of Fame career" and winning another NFL MVP award.

One of the factors Rapoport alluded to, as Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio suggests, is whether the Packers will give Rodgers a contract that gives credence to Murphy's claim that the team is committed to Rodgers for 2021 and beyond. Under the current contract, the lone commitment applies to 2021.

It would take a new deal with a new structure to keep the Packers from having the ability after the coming season to move on from Rodgers.

Meanwhile, it's curious to say the least that Rodgers kept his mouth shut for months, and that the news of his intent to play for the Packers emerged only after Murphy and Gutekunst had to face fans at the annual shareholders meeting.

Whatever the case, the news is positive. We'll be watching to see if it remains that way.

We'll also be watching to see if this has a positive impact on Davante Adams' long-term contract talks, which went off the rails late last week.
