Davante Adams 2020 Outlook
As Fansided.com put it, "Adams continues to prove why he's an elite wide receiver and he'll be key to the Green Bay Packers' offense in 2020. ..." Green Bay failed to add a consistent No. 2 receiver in the offseason, but as long as Adams is on the team, Aaron Rodgers has an elite target to throw to. Adams' release is arguably the best in the league, his route-running is elite and he's incredible in the red zone with 40 touchdowns to his name over the past four seasons. He played in only 12 games in the regular season, missing four games due to a toe injury, but let's not forget that, when Adams was healthy and on the field in 2019, he and Rodgers continued to produce at their usual, prodigious rate. In fact, Adams was a top-10 wide receiver eight times and scored 20-plus fantasy points in five games. Adams did see his fantasy points per touch average decline from 2.97 in 2018 to 2.56 a season ago. However, he still finished sixth in fantasy points per game among wideouts at 17.7. This year, even if the Packers continue to expand the running attack, Adams is again going to get a big share of targets.
Davante Adams 2019 Outlook
Adams has scored double-digit touchdowns each of the past three seasons, but he took his game to an even higher level in 2018. As CBSSports.com noted, for the first time in his career he got a full season’s worth of No. 1 workload with Aaron Rodgers under center and he looked every bit the part. Not only did the Packers not add any competition for targets during the offseason, they even let Randall Cobb walk. And while it will be some time before the Packers officially unveil HC Matt LaFleur's offense in a game, the start of the off-season program offered some hints about how the offense will look. With Cobb in Dallas, the team doesn't have an obvious slot receiver, which will force Adams to move inside at times during the 2019 season. Adams sees potential positives to that arrangement. "I think the versatility is putting these defenses in a bind as far as coverages they can play and guys they can match with," Adams said. "... [They] may not want to travel so-and-so with me inside. If that will take their No. 1 off me, and I can get some mismatches maybe on the backer or the safety or anybody else, I think that is beneficial." He's not wrong. And it's hard to imagine his targets decreasing significantly from last year's 169.
Davante Adams 2018 Outlook
With the departure of Jordy Nelson, Adams becomes even more valuable to fantasy owners than he already was. But we knew it was coming. Remember, the Packers addressed one of their potential off-season questions when they inked Adams to a four-year, $58 million deal last December. Adams established himself as Green Bay's No. 1 wide receiver in 2017, and if he hadn't been knocked out of two games due to illegal hits, he likely would have had Pro Bowl-worthy numbers. Adams demonstrated his true value by being the lone wideout on the Packers’ roster to remain productive after Aaron Rodgers went down to injury. With Brett Hundley at the helm, Adams had 46 receptions for 543 yards and five TDs. For comparison, Nelson had 28 receptions for 213 yards and zero TDs. What's even more staggering is the target share for each: Adams had 71 targets while Nelson only had 49. Remember: Hundley was ranked the 31st-best QB by PFF last season. So what to expect with a healthy Rodgers? ESPN's Mike Clay projects Adams to be the NFL's top scoring threat, which shouldn't be surprising as he is the only NFL WR to post double-digit touchdowns in both of the last two seasons.
