Osweiler Traded To Browns; Could Romo Be Headed To Houston Soon?
So yeah. This actually happened. The Texans have traded Brock Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler's $16 million salary of Houston's books.

As ESPN's Adam Schefter explained -- and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo seconded -- this appears to be more about the Browns acquiring a second-round pick that it does landing Osweiler. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to try to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo -- more on that momentarily.

The Texans also will get the Browns' fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler's contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland's 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash.

Again, Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him (Schefter is reporting that teams are already reaching out to check on Osweiler's availability). They might even cut him. But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting the Browns are still expected to move on Robert Griffin III.

It's possible Osweiler could stick around for depth -- albeit mediocre depth. Which, in case you haven't noticed, has been a thing in Cleveland in recent years.

Did I mention Romo?

Oh yeah. A day after it was reported the Cowboys would release the veteran signal caller and allow him to pursue other options... Not so fast.

Turns out the Cowboys haven't given up on getting something in return for Romo. According to Rapoport there's no specific deadline attached to trading Romo, but the Cowboys, ideally, would love to pit suitors against each other. The two teams most interested, the Broncos and Texans, however aren't interested in trading for him.

So while the Texans have cleared $10 million against the cap to sign Romo, they won't be trading for him. Which means Romo's future might not be determined for some time.

Meanwhile, with the Bears releasing Jay Cutler to make room for new signee Mike Glennon's arrival, the Jets have reportedly reached out to Cutler.

Jets quarterback coach Jeremy Bates worked with Cutler in both Denver and Chicago, which might help make for a smoother transition on the field. In addition, there's talk of a possible trade for Broncos QB Trevor Siemian should the Broncos land Romo -- which in case I haven't mentioned it isn't likely to happen barring the Cowboys releasing him.

And Romo did post a farewell message to Cowboys fans on Instagram a few minutes ago, so the intrigue continues and if you don't believe in coincidences don't be surprised if Romo isn't a Houston Texan once the dust clears.
