Following up on
a previous item. ... According to Jourdan Rodrigue of the Athletic.com, interim coach Perry Fewell confirmed that
Will Grier is going to start on Sunday against the Colts.
The move comes as no surprise.
For what it's worth, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Scott Turner says he liked
Will Grier’s arm strength when he
evaluated him before the draft. Spent a lot of time with him before his pro day.
Turner says Grier did have the advantage of getting some first-team reps during OTAs and training camp when
Cam Newton would take series off.
Grier also saw some exhibition action.
He was 34-of-61 for 385 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in four appearances.
We'll see if any of that pays off against the Colts on Sunday.
Bigger picture, of course, moving Grier into the starting lineup gives the Panthers a couple weeks worth of film for the next coaching staff/front office to pore over in coming months.
