Following up on this week's
Team Notes. ... Running back
Theo Riddick was on the practice field after missing the Miami game with a knee injury, but did very little during the 20 minutes that were open to reporters.
Turns out he did nothing.
Riddick was listed as a nonparticipant in Wednesday's practice.
Darius Slay (toe), Ezekiel Ansah (shoulder),
Ameer Abdullah (ankle) and
Golden Tate (ankle) were listed as limited.
I'll be following up on all the skill player on that list as the week progresses.
Meanwhile, it's worth noting that
Kerryon Johnson went off for 158 yards on 19 carries, while adding two catches for 21 yards on three targets against Miami on Sunday.
According to ESPN's Mike Clay, Johnson certainly benefited from Riddick missing the game, but the bigger development was that he out-carried
LeGarrette Blount 19 to 10.
Johnson was on the field for a career-high 59 percent of the offensive snaps and paced the backfield with seven pass routes. He's now averaging 6.4 yards per carry, which trails only
Matt Breida (6.5) for best in the league (minimum 40 carries).
Johnson finished Week 7 as a top-10 fantasy back, but it marks only his first weekly finish better than 25th. With Blount still a factor at the goal line and passing-down specialist Riddick's return looming at some point, Clay believes Johnson's fantasy upside remains capped.
Clay added, "Value him as a flex option."
I'll add that those in a pinch due to byes and other attrition might need him to be more; and now we've seen he's capable of that under the right circumstance.
