What in the World are the Oakland Raiders Doing?

By Chad Stapley
Chad Stapley The Oakland Raiders might very well be the most unorganized, and most dysfunctional organization in the NFL. Not only did they start out free agency stumbling through the gates but they still have holes all over their roster and they entered free agency with 65 million to spend. Let’s start off with the whole Rodger Saffold deal (which ultimately was nixed and voided), the Raiders were willing to extremely overpay for a “tweener” that hasn’t settled on whether he is a tackle or a guard. Most scouts and people amongst the Rams organization (where he ended up re-signing for a much more suitable deal) think that his best play comes when he is playing the guard position. Given all the critical information, why in the world did the Raiders try to sign him to a top tier Left Tackle level contract? All that non sense aside, now there are rumors that the Raiders might be interested in trading for Matt Schaub and his 14.5 million owed in 2014-2015, didn’t they learn their lesson on trading for aging veteran QBs with the whole Carson Palmer deal? The Raiders were heading into the 2014-2015 NFL season with almost no talent at any skill position. There top two WRs are Denarius Moore & Rod Streater, both would be lucky to be a #2 or #3 option on any winning team in the NFL. Luckily they recently signed James Jones to help out there WR depth, but is Jones a #1 WR at this point in his career?

The even bigger question, who the hell is going to throw them the football? They have two young and thus far unimpressive guys at QB in Terrelle Pryor & Matt McGloin, both have shown flashes of greatness but is either truly considered to be a franchise QB? Then you look on the RB position where the Raiders let their best RB leave in free agency and they re-signed Darren McFadden to a one year prove it deal although he hasn’t been able to stay healthy in his entire NFL career and even when he is fully healthy he still has been just a mediocre RB thus far in his career. The Raiders should really try and trade one of the two QBs they have on their roster so they can stack up some draft picks, Pryor would be the most desirable due to his athletic abilities and you could see teams like the Seahawks, 49ers, and Jets all go after Pryor to have an added insurance policy off the bench. By trading one QB they can do what everyone who watches football thinks they should do and draft a franchise QB at the 5th spot in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Judging by how the Raiders have drafted in the past, they will not grab a sure fire franchise QB (this draft has a couple) but instead they will draft an intriguing prospect who has a ton of untapped potential. In other words, it might be another long year for Raiders fans.
