Quick hits week 9 2017

By Chad Stapley
Chad Stapley Quick Hits: Week Eight Kenyan Drake & Damien Williams quickly became the hottest RB FA pickups when the Dolphins surprisingly traded their Pro-Bowl RB in Jay Ajayi for a fourth round draft pick. Keep them on your bench until they figure out the pecking order at RB.

Leonte Carroo had a decent game in a blow out to the Ravens by catching six passes for 48 yards. He isn’t worthy of a roster spot just yet but he might be someone to keep an eye on.

The Ravens picked up a stud at RB in Alex Collins and he rewarded them by carrying the ball 18 times for 113 yards. He is quickly becoming the lead back in the Ravens stable of RBs. Can you believe the Seahawks dropped this guy? Especially given how pathetic their run game has been.

Case Keenum is quietly leading the Vikings to win after win. This week he went 27/43 for 288 yards and two TDs. He is better than at least a handful of other teams starting QBs and he started the season as the third string QB.

Adam Thielen has been a steal for the Vikings dating back to last season. He is a surefire FLEX starting option without outside WR2 potential in any fantasy football league.

The Vikings have filled the RB void quite nicely and Jerick McKinnon was a big reason they beat the daylights out of the Browns. McKinnon had 14 carries for 50 yards and a TD to go with his six catches for 72 yards. They need to get him the ball early and often, he is a nice RB2 or FLEX option for fantasy leagues.

The Browns have scared Deshone Kizer so bad that he looks like a QB out there trying not to turn the ball over, not just out there playing the game he knows how to play. Kizer is young and probably shouldn’t have been named the starter to start the season. However, you chose him over everyone else so you need to ride with the decision, even if he throws three INTs at half, keep him in the game and see if he can perform better in the second half. Instead Kizer is looking over his shoulder every play wondering when he is going to get benched.

Even when Marshawn Lynch returns from suspension this week, the Raiders should find more ways to get DeAndre Washington the ball. The young RB filled in admirably for Lynch by carrying the ball six times for 26 yards and catching eight passes for 62 yards and a TD. Washington is a playmaker and the Raiders seem to be lacking in that area.

The Buffalo Bills are riding the wave LeSean McCoy sets for them, and he is coming up huge this year. McCoy ran the ball 27 times for 151 yards and a TD to go with his six catches for 22 yards. The Bills are 5-2 and have him to thank for a lot of it. He is a no brainer RB1 and should be started in every fantasy football league.

Giving Tyrod Taylor a toy like Kelvin Benjamin to play with is only going to make the Bills better. Look for these guys to connect in the Red Zone often.

The Colts might have lost the season but they got a diamond in the rough by getting Jack Doyle. He had his best game of the season this week catching 12 passes for 121 yards, and slowly entered the TE1 league. He now should be started in any fantasy football league as he has quickly become Jacoby Brissett’s go to guy.

When Joe Mixon isn’t beating you with his legs, he is killing you with his pass catching abilities. Mixon put up a dud running the ball 11 times for 18 yards but caught three passes for 91 yards. Mixon is a FLEX option right now but could quickly become a RB2 option in most fantasy football leagues.

The Patriots have four capable RB options on their roster and it seems as if they are going to try and use them all each game. Here is the break down for each RB.

Mike Gillislee ran the ball 11 times for 34 yards.

Dion Lewis ran the ball 15 times for 44 yards and caught two passes for 10 yards.

Rex Burkhead ran the ball four times for 15 yards and caught seven passes for 68 yards.

James White ran the ball once for two yards and caught five passes for 85 yards.

None of them is really worthy of a start at either RB position in any fantasy football league but they all are nice FLEX options in deeper leagues.

Mark Ingram continues to have a monster 2017, this week he ran the ball 18 times for 75 yards and a TD to go with six catches for 24 yards. Ingram should be started at RB1 in any fantasy football league.

Josh McCown is having a nice resurgent year, even if it probably won’t result in the playoffs or anything close to that. McCown threw for 257 yards and two TDs and still lost the game.

The Texans have found their QB in Deshaun Watson, and he had one hell of a game against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. Watson threw for 402 yards with four TDs while also running for 67 yards. If he was playing anyone else besides Wilson, the Texans probably would have won the game.

Russell Wilson on the other hand threw for 452 yards with four TDs of his own and 30 rushing yards.

The Seahawks have a nice little combo of WRs with Tyler Lockett, Paul Richardson, and Doug Baldwin. Lockett caught six passes for 121 yards, Richardson caught six passes for 105 yards and two TDs, and Baldwin caught six passes for 54 yards.

The Texans have a nice two headed monster at WR in DeAndre Hopkins & Will Fuller V. The duo caught 13 passes for 349 yards and three TDs. So basically all of the yards and passes Watson threw went in their general direction. Both guys should be started at WR1/2 fantasy football position each week.

Ezekiel Elliott had an amazing last game before his six game suspension is set to start. Elliott ran the ball 33 times for 150 yards and two TDs to go with one reception. The Cowboys will definitely miss him while he is out.

JuJu Smith-Schuster had the best game of his young career catching seven passes for 193 yards and a TD. He is a nice FLEX option with upside WR2 potential, keep an eye on him in your fantasy football leagues.

Travis Kelce is an absolute nightmare to have to defend against. Against the Broncos he had seven catches for 133 yards for one TD. Many of those catches were leaping catches that the majority of starting TE’s in the NFL couldn’t make.
