Damien Harris 2023 Outlook
Harris joins the Buffalo Bills after four mainly productive seasons with AFC North rival New England. He definitely left his mark in 2021 by scoring 15 touchdowns in 15 games, but multiple injuries in 2022 set him back and opened the door for Rhamondre Stevenson to take over the No. 1 role with the Patriots. He landed in Buffalo on an inexpensive one-year deal. It is a bit difficult to project what Harris’ role in Buffalo will be. He might get some extra attention in the red zone, but the Bills also have Latavius Murray and, frankly, Josh Allen as better options to push the pile. He’s never caught a touchdown pass in his NFL career. Harris may simply be relegated to splitting the workload with James Cook, whom we have just a few spots higher in these rankings. “From a player’s standpoint, I’m a big physical guy, that’s a little fast, that can make people miss sometimes,” Harris told the team website. “I like to be an all-around back that can do it all.'
Damien Harris 2022 Outlook
As Fansided.com's Mike Luciano recently noted, for all of the hype surrounding Mac Jones after his standout rookie season, Harris was arguably the most instrumental player when it came to making the Patriots' offense work last year. In total, Harris racked up 929 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 202 carries and caught 18 passes for 132 yards in 15 games. He became only the second New England player with at least 15 rushing touchdowns in one season, joining LeGarrette Blount, who had 18 in 2016. The Patriots lost a running back in free agency with Brandon Bolden, who ran for 226 yards and one touchdown on 44 carries and caught 41 passes for 405 yards, leaving for the Las Vegas Raiders. They retained receiving specialist James White. Of greater concern to Harris investors would be Rhamondre Stevenson. Another concern is touchdown regression. As SI.com's Matt De Lima suggested, every touchdown lost requires an addition 60 rushing yards to overcome. How realistic are increased rushing totals with Stevenson likely to see 175-plus touches? Even if the Patriots rush the ball like they did during that Bills snow game -- the one where they passed it only three times -- De Lima believes Harris produced at or near his ceiling. That's a fair assessment.
Damien Harris 2021 Outlook
The Patriots are coming off one of their worst seasons in two decades, and as SI.com recently suggested, one of the few highlights of 2020 was the play of Harris. Harris was one of 12 NFL running backs to average 5.0 yards per carry in 2020 -- a major upgrade compared to Sony Michel). He played just 10 games last season but still managed to rack up 691 rushing yards. Project that out over a 16-game season, and we're looking at over 1,100 rushing yards. Just four running backs (Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook, Jonathan Taylor and Aaron Jones) topped 1,100 rushing yards in 2020. What stands out when Harris carries the ball is that he finds his hole and blasts through it. He runs motivated and isn't afraid to trample opposing players on his way to the end zone. Beyond his stats, Harris received recognition from Pro Football Focus, as he was their highest graded Patriot and the second-highest graded running back in the NFL by earning a 90.3 overall grade. While his PPR appeal is limited, Harris has legitimate RB1 upside in non-PPR leagues. He could still become a midrange RB2 in half-PPR leagues due to his rushing ability, projected volume, and a stellar offensive line.
