Corey Davis 2020 Outlook
Davis entered the NFL as a big-play threat, and he still has one season left to prove he can be exactly that. The Titans declined to pick up the fifth-year option on Davis' rookie contract this offseason. ... Selected fifth overall in the 2017 draft, Davis brought the promise of stretching the field for a Titans team that desperately needed a receiver of that caliber. He's struggled to do so in his first three seasons. Davis' best campaign came in his only full season of action (2018), in which he caught 65 passes for 891 yards (including a 51-yarder that hinted at his potential) and four touchdowns. 2019 saw Davis post the best yards-per-catch average (14) of his career, but he found himself in a receiving corps that included a new star: A.J. Brown. There's room for both receivers on Tennessee's roster, especially with slot receiver Adam Humphries helping balance out all levels of the field. But Davis' days of being a high-end fantasy prospect are over until he proves otherwise. Maybe being in a contract year will spur him to new heights. But the presence of Brown and the Titans' run-first offense limit Davis to being a reasonable bench player in Dynasty but a late-round flier at best in redraft and best-ball leagues.
Corey Davis 2019 Outlook
According to the team's official website, the game finally slowed down for Davis in 2018. As a result, Davis doubled his production from his rookie season and became the team's top playmaker at wideout. Now, he's looking to take things up a few more notches in 2019. Davis, the fifth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, certainly developed greater chemistry with Marcus Mariota. But the Titans also have more weapons around Davis this year. They signed veteran Adam Humphries and drafted A.J. Brown in the second round of April’s Draft. TE Delanie Walker's return will add another mouth to feed. Beyond that, availability has been an issue for Davis. Slowed by a hamstring injury during his rookie season, Davis has done a lot of preventative work while training in Arizona. He's also working on staying hydrated. But Davis' health is only part of the equation. Mariota will need to be on the field as well (by no means a certainty given his own injury history), and the Titans will have to lean on the pass, something that seems less likely given Derrick Henry's late-season run last year. Davis has the talent. But it's fair to wonder if all the pieces are in place for a true breakout in Year 3.
Corey Davis 2018 Outlook
Davis finally scored his first two NFL touchdowns in the Titans' playoff game against the Patriots, after injuries kept him from really taking flight until the second half of the 2017 season. "I think at the end of the day the key for him is to get himself healthy, so he can go out and show the talent that he has," new Titans WRs coach Rob Moore said of Davis. "I think once he gets that done everything will kind of take care of itself. At the end of the day it comes down to discipline, focus, and really doing all the intangible things that he is going to need to get done to be the player he wants to be." Davis was bothered by a hamstring injury through the first half of the year. It hampered his development, but the first-round pick came on late in the year, despite some route-running and timing issues. Davis finished the season with 34 catches for 375 yards as a rookie and his continuing development with QB Marcus Mariota will be a primary focus for the new coaching staff. Consider Davis a high-upside fantasy prospect who will be available at a very reasonable price.
