Devontae Booker 2021 Outlook
The Giants agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $6 million with Booker, who plied his trade in Las Vegas as a Raider last season. The move ended Wayne Gallman's time with the Giants; Booker is now the veteran backup behind Saquon Barkley, who is coming back from an ACL tear. Barkley won’t return and play 100 percent of the snaps coming off that injury, especially early in the season, so Booker it is. While he might not be as pure a runner as Gallman, Booker is probably a more well-rounded back. Booker averaged 4.5 yards per carry last year for the Raiders and caught 17 balls out of the backfield. Indeed, GM Dave Gettleman, who used the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft on Barkley, said Booker was worth the price because he's a three-down back and adding him to a roster that already has Barkley only makes the Giants stronger. "You can never have too many good players at one position," Gettleman said. Still, the Giants have put considerable resources (both in draft capital and cap space) to the position. They'll need to get some return on their investments from both players.
