DeVante Parker 2022 Outlook
The Dolphins sent a receiver to a division rival in a rare trade within the AFC East when they shipped Parker to New England in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick. Parker was selected by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2015 draft. He became available after Miami acquired receiver Tyreek Hill from Kansas City last month. In 10 games last season, Parker caught 40 passes for 515 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Over his seven-year career, Parker has produced one 1,000-yard season, a 2019 campaign when he also set career highs in receptions (72) and receiving touchdowns (nine). Since then, the former first-round pick has failed to top 800 yards and 65 catches in a single season. He also posted a 54.8 percent catch rate last year, his lowest since 2018. Against the Patriots, however, Parker has consistently produced. As Boston Herald staffer Andrew Callahan notes, over a dozen head-to-head meetings, he's averaged 50 yards and a touchdown per game. Parker now joins Kendrick Bourne, Nelson Agholor, Jakobi Meyers and N'Keal Harry on the team's depth chart. Parker should provide a uniquely physical presence among the team's current wideouts. Expect him to open the season as the Pats' top outside threat, and that's worth something. Don't overlook him. The price will be right.
DeVante Parker 2021 Outlook
By the end of the 2020 NFL season the Miami Dolphins had something of a mess among their pass catchers. Jakeem Grant wasn't healthy and missed two of the final three games. Parker wasn't healthy and missed two of the final three games. Preston Williams had already gone on injured reserve. And (obviously) the Dolphins could have used Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson, but they weren’t available all season after opting out because of Covid-19 concerns. So it would have been nice if their star wideout had delivered prior to his injury. As Bleacher Report reminded readers, Parker had a monster fantasy season two years ago in 13 games with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback for the Dolphins. However, his production dropped dramatically last year with Fitzpatrick and Tua Tagovailoa taking turns at the helm. Looking toward 2021, a bounce-back season for Parker feels unlikely with newcomers Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle on board. Those two, along with Williams and tight end Mike Gesicki, will cut into Parker's target share. Now entering his sixth year, Parker might have fallen to being just the WR3, and has exactly one year of over 800 receiving yards under his belt.
