DeAndre Hopkins 2020 Outlook
Hopkins has no doubt where he ranks among the best receivers in the game -- he says he's the top pass catcher in football, and that his numbers would dwarf those of other star receivers if he had played his entire career with an elite quarterback. "I definitely think I'm the best," Hopkins said. "I know I'm the best. ..." Hopkins has never led the league in catches or yards, but he said that's a reflection of the offenses he has played in. Hopkins said he would have better numbers than the Saints' Michael Thomas or Atlanta's Julio Jones if he had their quarterbacks. Now after being traded to the Cardinals (for David Johnson and a pair of draft picks), Hopkins joins Larry Fitzgerald and rising wideout Christian Kirk in Kliff Kingsbury's fast-paced offense alongside second-year triggerman Kyler Murray. In seven seasons in Houston, Hopkins compiled 8,602 receiving yards, including five years over the 1,100-yard receiving mark. From a fantasy perspective, Hopkins, the top wide receiver picked in most 2019 fantasy drafts, produced a combined 10 top-20 performances and ranked in a tie for the second-most 20-plus point games at the position. Hopkins also finished second in terms of top-5 finishes with four. Only Thomas (nine) had more. It'll definitely be interesting to see how Hopkins fares in the desert -- and how much room he adds to Murray's ceiling.
DeAndre Hopkins 2019 Outlook
We all get it. Hopkins is good. He's super good. But it's better than that. He has a talented young quarterback in Deshaun Watson and gets a huge percentage of his team's targets. And he makes the most of those targets. Hopkins comes off an impressive 2018 campaign, as he collected his second straight All-Pro selection and tied Andre Johnson's single-season franchise record with 115 catches. Unlike Johnson, Hopkins did it without a single drop. The former 2013 first-round pick's ability to haul in 105 catchable passes without a drop was a Pro Football Focus record (PFF has been keeping grades since the 2006 season). Better still, the overall production has been consistently high-end. Hopkins has only had two seasons in his six years in the NFL where he has not reached over 1,000 receiving yards (a feat achieved without the greatest of quarterbacks until Watson came along). According to PFF, over the 2017 and 2018 seasons Hopkins has a combined 649.3 points in PPR -- the next receiver that is even remotely close is Antonio Brown with 638.2 points. With an improved offensive line and Watson still under center, 2019 should be another elite year for Hopkins.
