Antonio Brown 2019 Outlook
Brown was finally able to work his way out of Pittsburgh via trade to Oakland. The Steelers got third-round and fifth-round picks in April's draft, and Brown got a reworked contract that makes him the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver. ... Brown recorded Hall of Fame-type production over his nine seasons in Pittsburgh with 834 receptions, 11,207 yards and 74 touchdown catches. But a frayed relationship overshadowed the gaudy numbers and a divorce became inevitable. The question now is whether HC Jon Gruden can maximize Brown's talents in Oakland. It might also be worth wondering how Brown will react if Gruden can't. He's used to getting the ball. In fact, Brown has eclipsed 1,250 receiving yards in six consecutive seasons -- something only he and Torry Holt have ever done. He's the only receiver to ever top 100 receptions six years in a row. (No other receiver even did it five consecutive times.) But Brown will be 31 when the season opens and as noted above, he doesn't come cheap in terms of salary. In addition, as ESPN's Matthew Berry suggested, "However much Oakland's offense improves, it won't be to the levels of the (Le'Veon) Bell/Brown/Ben (Roethlisberger) heyday." Berry added that volume and talent still will keep Brown inside the top-10 WR discussion, but he's no longer the consensus No. 1 WR in fantasy he's been the past five seasons.
Antonio Brown 2018 Outlook
Trying to make an argument for somebody -- at least anybody currently playing -- being a better NFL (and fantasy football) wide receiver than Brown could be an episode of "Mission Impossible." In fact, as Bleacher Report’s Joe Goodberry suggested, "Brown might legitimately be the best offensive player in the NFL." Goodberry continued: "Lightning-quick with light feet, Brown runs sharp, crisp routes that gain him as much separation as anybody in the league. While he may body-catch at times, Brown's hands are perfectly fine, as he rarely drops a pass. His only limitation would be his size, but it doesn't affect him as much as you'd expect." The stats reflect his prowess. He led the league last season in receptions and receiving yards despite missing two games due to a late-season calf injury. If we're looking for reasons to be concerned (and we should look even if there aren't any huge concerns), one might be OC Todd Haley, one of the pass-happiest coordinators in the NFL, leaving for Cleveland. But Haley's replacement, Randy Fichtner, isn't going to change the Steelers' offense materially. Ben Roethlisberger and Le'Veon Bell, two of the major reasons for Brown's consistent productivity, are still in place. The rest of the supporting cast is still solid even with the departure of Martavis Bryant. Fantasy owners should continue to rely on Brown to return first-round dividends again this year.
