Following up on a
previous item. ... The Redskins have listed starting running back
Roy Helu and starting right tackle
Jammal Brown as questionable for their game Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.
Helu, hampered by knee and toe injuries, and Brown, who has missed the last two games because of a strained groin, were limited in practice this week. Both players have said they are hopeful that they can play.
If Helu can't start against the Vikings, fellow rookie Evan Royster will start in his place.
As the Sports Xchange pointed out, despite losing TE Fred Davis and LT Trent Williams to suspensions and Brown to a groin injury before the New England game on Dec. 11, the Redskins produced 763 yards and 50 points the past two weeks against the Patriots and New York Giants, their top outputs since their wave of player losses began in Week 5.
Washington's recent success has been based on the running of Helu and play-action passes by quarterback Rex Grossman to veteran receivers Jabar Gaffney, Donte' Stallworth and Santana Moss.
No team allows more points than the Vikings, but they surrender just 3.8 yards per carry.
Helu could have a big day as a receiver out of the backfield if he goes. Stay tuned. I'll be following up on his status through kickoff.
