Restructured Contract Locks Mixon In With Bengals For 2023
Bengals running back Joe Mixon agreed on Friday night to restructure his contract to remain with the team, his agent Peter Schaffer told multiple media outlets.

Mixon had a $9.4 million non-guaranteed base salary for this season and represented a $12.8 million hit against the salary cap.

Mixon, who turns 27 later this month, rushed for 814 yards and 7 touchdowns last season.

It was a notable downturn from the Pro Bowl level he was at in 2021. His average rushing yards per attempt (3.9) and yards per game (58.1) dipped to their lowest levels in a few seasons.

The Bengals may have signed Orlando Brown Jr. to protect Joe Burrow's blind side, but the state of the interior offensive line is another matter. Mixon seemed to be given less running room at times last year.

Finally, there's the issue of rushing opportunities: The Bengals ran the fourth-fewest times in the league while passing the seventh-most in 2022. But that also points to what intrigues us most about Mixon at the ADP he's going at: His usage in the passing game.

He set career highs in targets (75), catches (60) and receiving yards (441) in 2022, hitting totals that he previously came nowhere close to -- despite playing in just 14 games. We know Burrow has plenty of weapons downfield, but he's a smart quarterback who will check down when necessary. This brings Mixon a slight boost in PPR leagues.

Mixon is also facing a charge in a misdemeanor menacing case in which he allegedly pointed a gun at a woman while driving, according to local reports and police records. He pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated menacing back in April.
