Done Deal: Boldin, 49ers Agree To Two-Year Extension
Anquan Boldin, the 49ers MVP in his first season with the club, will be back for a second year with the organization. Boldin announced via Twitter that he is officially back with the team. The deal is a two-year extension, a source told CSNBayArea.com's Matt Maiocco.

“49er fans, I wanted to be the first to tell you that I’m returning to San Francisco,” Boldin announced on Monday. “Looking forward to joining my teammates, coaching staff and fans to bring back another championship to the Bay Area.”

After arriving last year in a trade with the Ravens, Boldin became the 49ers’ No. 1 wide receiver and had one of the best seasons of his career, starting all 16 games and catching 85 passes for 1,179 yards with seven touchdowns. The team gave Boldin the Bill Walsh Most Award as its most valuable player.

The chemistry he developed with Colin Kaepernick was apparent even during the team's offseason program and training camp in the summer.

The contract extension prevent Boldin from reaching the free-agent market. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine that the entire organization was “lockstep” in their determination to re-sign Boldin. And Boldin, an 11-year veteran, made it known that he wanted to re-sign with the 49ers, too.

The 49ers paid a sixth-round draft pick to obtain Boldin. He played last season on a $6 million contract.

With the 33-year old Boldin on board, the 49ers were able to compensate for the loss of Michael Crabtree, who was unavailable for the first 11 games as he recovered from a torn Achilles.

According to Maiocco, Boldin’s season represented the most production from a 49ers receiver since Terrell Owens had 1,300 receiving yards in 2002.

Now, heading into the 2014 season, the 49ers’ starting wide receivers appear set with Boldin and Crabtree. Maiocco believes the 49ers will add at least one wide receiver in the draft, and Quinton Patton will return in his second season to compete for playing time. Jon Baldwin, who recently reworked his contract will also be in the mix.

The 24-year-old Baldwin has just 44 receptions and 607 total yards in three NFL seasons. In 2013, he appeared in seven games for the 49ers and had only three catches after being traded from the Kansas City Chiefs in a swap of disappointing pass catchers last offseason (A.J. Jenkins was sent to Kansas City in the deal).
